1 Últimos años del reinado de Asa<br />En el año treinta y seis del reinado de Asa, Baasa, rey de Israel, invadió Judá y fortificó Ramá para que nadie pudiera entrar ni salir del territorio del rey Asa en Judá.

In the thirty-sixth year of Asa’s reign Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and fortified Ramah to prevent anyone from leaving or entering the territory of Asa king of Judah.
2 En respuesta, Asa retiró la plata y el oro de los tesoros del templo del Señor<br /> y del palacio real. Los envió al rey Ben-adad de Aram, quien gobernaba en Damasco, junto con el siguiente mensaje:

Asa then took the silver and gold out of the treasuries of the LORD’s temple and of his own palace and sent it to Ben-Hadad king of Aram, who was ruling in Damascus.
3 «Hagamos un tratado,<br /> tú y yo, como hicieron tu padre y mi padre. Mira, te envío plata y oro. Rompe el tratado con el rey Baasa de Israel, para que me deje en paz».

“Let there be a treaty between me and you,” he said, “as there was between my father and your father. See, I am sending you silver and gold. Now break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel so he will withdraw from me.”
4 Ben-adad aceptó la propuesta del rey Asa y envió a los comandantes de su ejército a atacar las ciudades de Israel. Ellos conquistaron las ciudades de Ijón, Dan y Abel-bet-maaca<br /> y todas las ciudades de almacenamiento de Neftalí.

Ben-Hadad agreed with King Asa and sent the commanders of his forces against the towns of Israel. They conquered Ijon, Dan, Abel Maim and all the store cities of Naphtali.
5 Apenas Baasa de Israel se enteró de lo que ocurría, abandonó el proyecto de fortificar Ramá y detuvo todo el trabajo.

When Baasha heard this, he stopped building Ramah and abandoned his work.
6 Entonces el rey Asa convocó a todos los hombres de Judá para que transportaran las piedras de construcción y la madera que Baasa había estado usando para fortificar Ramá. Asa empleó esos mismos materiales para fortificar las ciudades de Geba y Mizpa.

Then King Asa brought all the men of Judah, and they carried away from Ramah the stones and timber Baasha had been using. With them he built up Geba and Mizpah.
7 En ese tiempo, Hananí el vidente fue a ver al rey Asa y le dijo: «Por cuanto pusiste tu confianza en el rey de Aram en lugar de confiar en el Señor<br /> tu Dios, perdiste la oportunidad de destruir al ejército del rey de Aram.

At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him: “Because you relied on the king of Aram and not on the LORD your God, the army of the king of Aram has escaped from your hand.
8 ¿No recuerdas lo que les pasó a los etíopes<br /> y a los libios y a su enorme ejército, junto con todos sus carros de guerra y los conductores?<br /> En ese tiempo, confiaste en el Señor<br />, y él los entregó en tus manos.

Were not the Cushites and Libyans a mighty army with great numbers of chariots and horsemen? Yet when you relied on the LORD, he delivered them into your hand.
9 Los ojos del Señor<br /> recorren toda la tierra para fortalecer a los que tienen el corazón totalmente comprometido con él. ¡Qué necio has sido! ¡De ahora en adelante estarás en guerra!».

For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war.”
10 Asa se enojó tanto con Hananí por haberle dicho esto, que lo echó en la cárcel y lo puso en el cepo. En ese tiempo, Asa también comenzó a oprimir a algunos de su pueblo.

Asa was angry with the seer because of this; he was so enraged that he put him in prison. At the same time Asa brutally oppressed some of the people.

12 En el año treinta y nueve de su reinado, Asa contrajo una enfermedad grave en los pies. A pesar de lo grave que era, no buscó la ayuda del Señor<br />, sino que recurrió exclusivamente a sus médicos.

In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was afflicted with a disease in his feet. Though his disease was severe, even in his illness he did not seek help from the LORD, but only from the physicians.
13 Así que murió en el año cuarenta y uno de su reinado.

Then in the forty-first year of his reign Asa died and rested with his ancestors.
14 Lo enterraron en la tumba que había tallado para sí en la Ciudad de David. Fue puesto sobre una cama perfumada con especias dulces y ungüentos aromáticos, y la gente encendió una enorme hoguera funeraria en su honor.

They buried him in the tomb that he had cut out for himself in the City of David. They laid him on a bier covered with spices and various blended perfumes, and they made a huge fire in his honor.
