1 El peligro de los falsos maestros<br />En Israel también hubo falsos profetas, tal como habrá falsos maestros entre ustedes. Ellos les enseñarán con astucia herejías destructivas y hasta negarán al Señor, quien los compró. Esto provocará su propia destrucción repentina.

2 Habrá muchos que seguirán sus malas enseñanzas y su vergonzosa inmoralidad; y por culpa de estos maestros, se hablará mal del camino de la verdad.

3 Llevados por la avaricia, inventarán mentiras ingeniosas para apoderarse del dinero de ustedes; pero Dios los condenó desde hace mucho, y su destrucción no tardará en llegar.

4 Pues Dios ni siquiera perdonó a los ángeles que pecaron, sino que los arrojó al infierno,<br /> dentro de fosas tenebrosas,<br /> donde están encerrados hasta el día del juicio.

5 Dios tampoco perdonó al mundo antiguo, aparte de Noé y a los otros siete miembros de su familia. Noé advirtió al mundo del justo juicio de Dios, y por eso Dios lo protegió cuando destruyó, con un gran diluvio, el mundo de los que vivían sin Dios.

6 Tiempo después, Dios condenó las ciudades de Sodoma y Gomorra, y las redujo a montones de cenizas. Las puso como ejemplo de lo que le sucederá a la gente que vive sin Dios.

7 Sin embargo, Dios también rescató a Lot y lo sacó de Sodoma, porque Lot era un hombre recto que estaba harto de la vergonzosa inmoralidad de la gente perversa que lo rodeaba.

8 Así es, Lot era un hombre recto atormentado en su alma por la perversión que veía y oía a diario.

9 Como ven, el Señor sabe rescatar de las pruebas a todos los que viven en obediencia a Dios, al mismo tiempo que mantiene castigados a los perversos hasta el día del juicio final.

10 Él trata con particular severidad a los que se entregan a sus propios deseos sexuales pervertidos y desprecian la autoridad.<br />Estas personas son orgullosas y arrogantes, y hasta se atreven a insultar a los seres sobrenaturales<br /> sin ni siquiera temblar.

11 Aun los ángeles, que son mucho más grandes en poder y fuerza, no se atreven a presentar de parte del Señor<br /> cargos de blasfemia en contra de esos seres sobrenaturales.

12 Esos falsos maestros son como animales irracionales que viven por instinto y nacen para ser atrapados y destruidos. Se burlan de lo que no entienden, e igual que animales serán destruidos.

13 Su destrucción será la recompensa que recibirán por el daño que han causado. A ellos les encanta entregarse a los placeres perversos a plena luz del día. Son una vergüenza y una mancha entre ustedes. Se deleitan en el engaño<br /> incluso mientras comen con ustedes en las reuniones de compañerismo.

14 Cometen adulterio con solo mirar y nunca sacian su deseo por el pecado. Incitan a los inestables a pecar y están bien entrenados en la avaricia. Viven bajo la maldición de Dios.

15 Se apartaron del buen camino y siguieron los pasos de Balaam, hijo de Beor,<br /> a quien le encantaba ganar dinero haciendo el mal;

16 pero Balaam fue detenido de su locura cuando su burra lo reprendió con voz humana.

17 Estos individuos son tan inútiles como manantiales secos o como la neblina que es llevada por el viento. Están condenados a la más negra oscuridad.

18 Se jactan de sí mismos con alardes tontos y sin sentido. Saben cómo apelar a los deseos sexuales pervertidos, para incitar a que vuelvan al pecado los que apenas se escapaban de una vida de engaño.

19 Prometen libertad, pero ellos mismos son esclavos del pecado y de la corrupción porque uno es esclavo de aquello que lo controla.

20 Y cuando la gente escapa de la maldad del mundo por medio de conocer a nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo, pero luego se enreda y vuelve a quedar esclavizada por el pecado, termina peor que antes.

21 Les hubiera sido mejor nunca haber conocido el camino a la justicia, en lugar de conocerlo y luego rechazar el mandato que se les dio de vivir una vida santa.

22 Demuestran qué tan cierto es el proverbio que dice: «Un perro vuelve a su vómito»<br />. Y otro que dice: «Un cerdo recién lavado vuelve a revolcarse en el lodo».

1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves.

2 Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.

3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment;

5 if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;

6 if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;

7 and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless

8 (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)—

9 if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.

10 This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the flesh and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, they are not afraid to heap abuse on celestial beings;

11 yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not heap abuse on such beings when bringing judgment on them from the Lord.

12 But these people blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like unreasoning animals, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like animals they too will perish.

13 They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.

14 With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed—an accursed brood!

15 They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Bezer, who loved the wages of wickedness.

16 But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey—an animal without speech—who spoke with a human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness.

17 These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them.

18 For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of the flesh, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error.

19 They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.”

20 If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning.

21 It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them.

22 Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,” and, “A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.”
