2 Re 21

1 MANASSE era d’età di dodici anni, quando cominciò a regnare; e regnò cinquantacinque anni in Gerusalemme. E il nome di sua madre era Hefsiba.

2 Ed egli fece ciò che dispiace al Signore, secondo le abbominazioni delle genti, che il Signore avea scacciate d’innanzi a’ figliuoli d’Israele.

3 Ed edificò di nuovo gli alti luoghi, ch’Ezechia, suo padre, avea disfatti; e rizzò altari a Baal, e fece un bosco, come avea fatto Achab, re d’Israele; e adorò tutto l’esercito del cielo, e gli servì.

4 Edificò eziandio degli altari nella Casa del Signore, della quale il Signore avea detto: Io metterò il mio Nome in Gerusalemme;

5 ed edificò quegli altari a tutto l’esercito del cielo, ne’ due cortili della Casa del Signore.

6 E fece passare il suo figliuolo per lo fuoco, ed attese a pronostichi e ad augurii; e ordinò uno spirito di Pitone, e degl’indovini. Egli fece fino allo stremo ciò che dispiace al Signore, per dispettarlo.

7 Mise ancora la statua del bosco, ch’egli avea fatta, nella Casa della quale il Signore avea detto a Davide, ed a Salomone, suo figliuolo: Io metterò il mio Nome in perpetuo in questa Casa, ed in Gerusalemme, che io ho eletta d’infra tutte le tribù d’Israele.

8 E non continuerò più a far vagare il piè de’ figliuoli d’Israele fuor di questo paese, che io ho dato a’ lor padri; pur solamente che osservino di fare secondo tutto quello che io ho lor comandato; e secondo tutta la Legge, che il mio servitore Mosè ha loro data.

9 Ma essi non ubbidirono; anzi Manasse li fece deviare, per far peggio che le genti che il Signore avea distrutte d’innanzi a’ figliuoli d’Israele.

10 E il Signore parlò per li profeti, suoi servitori, dicendo:

11 Perciocchè Manasse, re di Giuda, ha commesse queste abbominazioni, facendo peggio che quanto fecer mai gli Amorrei, che furono dinanzi a lui; ed ha fatto eziandio peccar Giuda co’ suoi idoli;

12 perciò così ha detto il Signore Iddio d’Israele: Ecco, io fo venire un male sopra Gerusalemme, e sopra Giuda, tale che chiunque l’udirà avrà amendue le orecchie intronate.

13 E stenderò sopra Gerusalemme il regolo di Samaria, e la livella della casa di Achab; e fregherò Gerusalemme, come si frega una scodella, la quale, dopo che è fregata, altri la rivolta sotto sopra.

14 E abbandonerò il rimanente della mia eredità, e li darò nelle mani de’ lor nemici; e saranno in preda ed in rapina a tutti i lor nemici.

15 Perciocchè hanno fatto ciò che mi dispiace, e mi hanno dispettato, dal giorno che i padri loro uscirono fuor di Egitto fino al dì d’oggi.

16 Manasse, oltre a ciò, sparse molto sangue innocente, talchè n’empiè Gerusalemme, da un capo all’altro; oltre al peccato suo, col quale egli fece peccar Giuda, facendo ciò che dispiace al Signore.

17 Ora, quant’è al rimanente de’ fatti di Manasse, e tutto quello ch’egli fece, e il suo peccato ch’egli commise; queste cose non sono esse scritte nel libro delle Croniche dei re di Giuda?

18 E Manasse giacque co’ suoi padri, e fu seppellito nell’orto della sua casa, nell’orto di Uzza. Ed Amon, suo figliuolo, regnò in luogo suo.

19 AMON era d’età di ventidue anni quando cominciò a regnare; e regnò due anni in Gerusalemme. E il nome di sua madre era Mesullemet, figliuola di Harus, da Iotba.

20 Ed egli fece ciò che dispiace al Signore, come avea fatto Manasse, suo padre;

21 e camminò per tutta la via nella quale era camminato suo padre; e servì agl’idoli, a’ quali avea servito suo padre, e li adorò;

22 e lasciò il Signore, l’Iddio de’ suoi padri, e non camminò per la via del Signore.

23 Ora i servitori del re Amon fecero una congiura contro a lui, e l’uccisero in casa sua.

24 E il popolo del paese percosse tutti quelli che aveano fatta la congiura contro al re Amon; e costituì re Giosia, suo figliuolo, in luogo suo.

25 Ora, quant’è al rimanente de’ fatti di Amon; queste cose non sono esse scritte nel libro delle Croniche dei re di Giuda?

26 E il popolo lo seppellì nella sua sepoltura, nell’orto di Uzza. E Giosia, suo figliuolo, regnò in luogo suo.

Good News Translation GNT

1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king of Judah, and he ruled in Jerusalem for fifty-five years. His mother was Hephzibah.

2 Following the disgusting practices of the nations whom the Lord had driven out of the land as his people advanced, Manasseh sinned against the Lord.

3 He rebuilt the pagan places of worship that his father Hezekiah had destroyed; he built altars for the worship of Baal and made an image of the goddess Asherah, as King Ahab of Israel had done. Manasseh also worshiped the stars.

4 He built pagan altars in the Temple, the place that the Lord had said was where he should be worshiped.

5 In the two courtyards of the Temple he built altars for the worship of the stars.

6 He sacrificed his son as a burnt offering. He practiced divination and magic and consulted fortunetellers and mediums. He sinned greatly against the Lord and stirred up his anger.

7 He placed the symbol of the goddess Asherah in the Temple, the place about which the Lord had said to David and his son Solomon: "Here in Jerusalem, in this Temple, is the place that I have chosen out of all the territory of the twelve tribes of Israel as the place where I am to be worshiped.

8 And if the people of Israel will obey all my commands and keep the whole Law that my servant Moses gave them, then I will not allow them to be driven out of the land that I gave to their ancestors."

9 But the people of Judah did not obey the Lord, and Manasseh led them to commit even greater sins than those committed by the nations whom the Lord had driven out of the land as his people advanced.

10 Through his servants the prophets the Lord said,

11 "King Manasseh has done these disgusting things, things far worse than what the Canaanites did; and with his idols he has led the people of Judah into sin.

12 So I, the Lord God of Israel, will bring such a disaster on Jerusalem and Judah that everyone who hears about it will be stunned.

13 I will punish Jerusalem as I did Samaria, as I did King Ahab of Israel and his descendants. I will wipe Jerusalem clean of its people, as clean as a plate that has been wiped and turned upside down.

14 I will abandon the people who survive, and will hand them over to their enemies, who will conquer them and plunder their land.

15 I will do this to my people because they have sinned against me and have stirred up my anger from the time their ancestors came out of Egypt to this day."

16 Manasseh killed so many innocent people that the streets of Jerusalem were flowing with blood; he did this in addition to leading the people of Judah into idolatry, causing them to sin against the Lord.

17 Everything else that Manasseh did, including the sins he committed, is recorded in [The History of the Kings of Judah.]

18 Manasseh died and was buried in the palace garden, the garden of Uzza, and his son Amon succeeded him as king.

19 Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king of Judah, and he ruled in Jerusalem for two years. His mother was Meshullemeth, the daughter of Haruz from the town of Jotbah.

20 Like his father Manasseh, he sinned against the Lord;

21 he imitated his father's actions, and he worshiped the idols that his father had worshiped.

22 He rejected the Lord, the God of his ancestors, and disobeyed the Lord's commands.

23 Amon's officials plotted against him and assassinated him in the palace.

24 The people of Judah killed Amon's assassins and made his son Josiah king.

26 Amon was buried in the tomb in the garden of Uzza, and his son Josiah succeeded him as king.
