1 A’ dì di esso, Nebucadnesar, re di Babilonia, salì, e Gioiachim gli fu soggetto lo spazio di tre anni; poi si rivoltò, e si ribellò da lui.

2 E il Signore mandò contro a lui delle schiere di Caldei, e delle schiere di Siri, e delle schiere di Moabiti, e delle schiere di Ammoniti, che fecero delle correrie. Ed egli le mandò contro a Giuda, per guastarlo, secondo la parola del Signore, ch’egli avea pronunziata per li profeti, suoi servitori.

3 Certo, questo avvenne a Giuda, secondo la parola del Signore, per torlo via dal suo cospetto, per cagion de’ peccati di Manasse, secondo tutto ciò ch’egli avea fatto;

4 ed anche per lo sangue innocente ch’egli avea sparso, avendo empiuta Gerusalemme di sangue innocente; laonde il Signore non volle dare alcun perdono.

5 Ora, quant’è al rimanente de’ fatti di Gioiachim, e tutto quello ch’egli fece; queste cose non son esse scritte nel libro delle Croniche dei re di Giuda?

6 E Gioiachim, giacque co’ suoi padri; e Gioiachin, suo figliuolo, regnò in luogo suo.

7 Ora il re di Egitto non continuò più di uscire del suo paese; perciocchè il re di Babilonia avea preso tutto quello ch’era stato del re di Egitto, dal fiume di Egitto, fino al fiume Eufrate.

8 Gioiachin era d’età di diciotto anni, quando cominciò a regnare; e regnò in Gerusalemme tre mesi. E il nome di sua madre era Nehusta, figliuola di Elnatan, da Gerusalemme.

9 Ed egli fece ciò che dispiace al Signore, interamente come avea fatto suo padre.

10 IN quel tempo i servitori del re di Babilonia salirono contro a Gerusalemme, e l’assedio fu posto alla città.

11 E Nebucadnesar, re di Babilonia, venne in persona contro alla città, mentre i suoi servitori l’assediavano.

12 E Gioiachin, re di Giuda, uscì al re di Babilonia, con sua madre, e i suoi servitori, e i suoi capitani, e i suoi principi, e i suoi eunuchi. E il re di Babilonia lo fece prigione, l’anno ottavo del suo regno.

13 E trasse di Gerusalemme tutti i tesori della Casa del Signore, e i tesori della casa del re, e spezzò tutti i vasellamenti d’oro, che Salomone re d’Israele, avea fatti nel Tempio del Signore; come il Signore ne avea parlato.

14 E menò in cattività tutta Gerusalemme, e tutti i principi, e tutti gli uomini di valore, in numero di diecimila prigioni, insieme con tutti i legnaiuoli e ferraiuoli; non vi rimase se non il popolo povero del paese.

15 Così ne menò in cattività in Babilonia Gioiachin, e la madre del re, e le mogli del re, e i suoi eunuchi, e tutti i più possenti del paese;

16 insieme con tutti gli uomini di valore, ch’erano in numero di settemila; ed i legnaiuoli e ferraiuoli, ch’erano mille; tutti uomini valenti, e guerrieri; e il re di Babilonia li menò in cattività in Babilonia.

17 E IL re di Babilonia costituì re, in luogo di Gioiachin, Mattania, zio di esso, e gli mutò il nome in Sedechia.

18 Sedechia era d’età di ventun anno, quando cominciò a regnare; e regnò in Gerusalemme undici anni. E il nome di sua madre era Hamutal, figliuola di Geremia, da Libna.

19 Ed egli fece quello che dispiace al Signore, interamente come avea fatto Gioiachim;

20 perciocchè l’ira del Signore venne fino all’estremo contro a Gerusalemme, e contro a Giuda, finchè egli li ebbe scacciati dal suo cospetto. E Sedechia si ribellò dal re di Babilonia.

Good News Translation GNT

1 While Jehoiakim was king, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylonia invaded Judah, and for three years Jehoiakim was forced to submit to his rule; then he rebelled.

2 The Lord sent armed bands of Babylonians, Syrians, Moabites, and Ammonites against Jehoiakim to destroy Judah, as the Lord had said through his servants the prophets that he would do.

3 This happened at the Lord's command, in order to banish the people of Judah from his sight because of all the sins that King Manasseh had committed,

4 and especially because of all the innocent people he had killed. The Lord could not forgive Manasseh for that.

5 Everything that Jehoiakim did is recorded in [The History of the Kings of Judah.]

6 Jehoiakim died, and his son Jehoiachin succeeded him as king.

7 The king of Egypt and his army never marched out of Egypt again, because the king of Babylonia now controlled all the territory that had belonged to Egypt, from the Euphrates River to the northern border of Egypt.

8 Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king of Judah, and he ruled in Jerusalem for three months. His mother was Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan from Jerusalem.

9 Following the example of his father, Jehoiachin sinned against the Lord.

10 It was during his reign that the Babylonian army, commanded by King Nebuchadnezzar's officers, marched against Jerusalem and besieged it.

11 During the siege Nebuchadnezzar himself came to Jerusalem,

12 and King Jehoiachin, along with his mother, his sons, his officers, and the palace officials, surrendered to the Babylonians. In the eighth year of Nebuchadnezzar's reign he took Jehoiachin prisoner

13 and carried off to Babylon all the treasures in the Temple and the palace. As the Lord had foretold, Nebuchadnezzar broke up all the gold utensils which King Solomon had made for use in the Temple.

14 Nebuchadnezzar carried away as prisoners the people of Jerusalem, all the royal princes, and all the leading men, ten thousand in all. He also deported all the skilled workers, including the blacksmiths, leaving only the poorest of the people behind in Judah.

15 Nebuchadnezzar took Jehoiachin to Babylon as a prisoner, together with Jehoiachin's mother, his wives, his officials, and the leading men of Judah.

16 Nebuchadnezzar deported all the important men to Babylonia, seven thousand in all, and one thousand skilled workers, including the blacksmiths, all of them able-bodied men fit for military duty.

17 Nebuchadnezzar made Jehoiachin's uncle Mattaniah king of Judah and changed his name to Zedekiah.

18 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king of Judah, and he ruled in Jerusalem for eleven years. His mother was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah from the city of Libnah.

19 King Zedekiah sinned against the Lord, just as King Jehoiakim had done.

20 The Lord became so angry with the people of Jerusalem and Judah that he banished them from his sight.
