2 Samuele 16

1 Ora, quando Davide fu passato un poco di là dalla cima del monte, ecco, Siba, servitore di Mefiboset, gli venne incontro con un paio d’asini carichi, sopra i quali erano dugento pani, e cento mazzuoli d’uve secche, e cento di frutti dalla state, ed un baril di vino.

2 E il re disse a Siba: Che vuoi far di coteste cose? E Siba disse: Gli asini son per la famiglia del re, per cavalcarli; e il pane, e i frutti dalla state, son per li fanti, perchè mangino; e il vino è per quelli che saranno stanchi nel deserto, perchè bevano.

3 E il re disse: E dove è il figliuolo del tuo signore? E Siba disse al re: Ecco, egli è dimorato in Gerusalemme; perciocchè egli ha detto: Oggi la casa d’Israele mi restituirà il reame di mio padre.

4 E il re disse a Siba: Ecco, tutto quello ch’era di Mefiboset è tuo. E Siba disse: Io mi t’inchino, o re, mio signore; trovi io pur grazia appo te.

5 Ora, essendo il re Davide giunto a Bahurim, ecco, un uomo della famiglia di Saulle, il cui nome era Simi, figliuolo di Ghera, uscì di là, e andava maledicendo Davide.

6 E tirava delle pietre contro al re Davide, e contro a tutti i suoi servitori; benchè egli avesse a destra ed a sinistra tutta la gente, e tutti gli uomini di valore.

7 E Simi diceva così, maledicendolo: Esci, esci pur fuori, uomo di sangue, ed uomo scellerato;

8 il Signore ti ha fatto ritornare addosso tutto il sangue della casa di Saulle, in luogo del quale tu hai regnato; e il Signore ha dato il regno in mano ad Absalom, tuo figliuolo; ed eccoti nel tuo male; perciocchè tu sei un uomo di sangue.

9 E Abisai, figliuolo di Seruia, disse al re: Perchè maledice questo can morto il re, mio signore? deh! lascia che io vada, e gli tolga il capo.

10 Ma il re rispose: Che ho io da far con voi, figliuoli di Seruia? Maledica pure; e, se il Signore gli ha detto: Maledici Davide, chi dirà: Perchè hai tu fatto così?

11 Davide, oltre a ciò, disse ad Abisai, e a tutti i suoi servitori: Ecco, il mio figliuolo, ch’è uscito delle mie interiora, cerca di tormi la vita; quanto più ora lo può fare un Beniaminita? lasciatelo, ch’egli maledica pure; perciocchè il Signore glielo ha detto.

12 Forse il Signore riguarderà alla mia afflizione, e mi renderà del bene, in luogo della maledizione, della quale costui oggi mi maledice.

13 Davide adunque, con la sua gente, camminava per la via, e Simi andava allato al monte, dirimpetto a lui, maledicendo del continuo, e tirandogli pietre, e levando la polvere.

14 Ora il re, e tutta la gente ch’era con lui, giunsero là tutti stanchi; e quivi presero lena.

15 ED Absalom, con tutto il popolo, i principali d’Israele, entrò in Gerusalemme; ed Ahitofel con lui.

16 E quando Husai Archita, famigliare amico di Davide, fu venuto ad Absalom, gli disse: Viva il re, viva il re.

17 Ed Absalom disse ad Husai: È questa la tua benignità inverso il tuo famigliare amico? perchè non sei andato con lui?

18 Ed Husai disse ad Absalom: No; anzi io sarò di colui, il quale il Signore, e questo popolo, e tutti i principali d’Israele, hanno eletto; e dimorerò con lui.

19 E secondamente, a cui servirò io? non servirò io al figliuolo di esso? Come io sono stato al servigio di tuo padre, così anche sarò al tuo.

20 Allora Absalom disse ad Ahitofel: Consigliate ciò che abbiamo a fare.

21 Ed Ahitofel disse ad Absalom: Entra dalle concubine di tuo padre, le quali egli ha lasciate a guardia della casa; acciocchè tutto Israele intenda che tu ti sei renduto abbominevole a tuo padre; e così le mani di tutti coloro che sono teco saranno rinforzate.

22 E fu teso ad Absalom un padiglione in sul tetto; ed Absalom entrò dalle concubine di suo padre, davanti agli occhi di tutto Israele.

23 E in que’ giorni il consiglio che Ahitofel dava era stimato come se si fosse domandato l’oracolo di Dio; di tanta stima era ogni consiglio di Ahitofel, così appresso Davide, come appresso Absalom.

Good News Translation GNT

1 When David had gone a little beyond the top of the hill, he was suddenly met by Ziba, the servant of Mephibosheth, who had with him a couple of donkeys loaded with two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred bunches of raisins, a hundred bunches of fresh fruit, and a leather bag full of wine.

2 King David asked him, "What are you going to do with all that?" Ziba answered, "The donkeys are for Your Majesty's family to ride, the bread and the fruit are for the men to eat, and the wine is for them to drink when they get tired in the wilderness."

3 "Where is Mephibosheth, the grandson of your master Saul?" the king asked him. "He is staying in Jerusalem," Ziba answered, "because he is convinced that the Israelites will now restore to him the kingdom of his grandfather Saul."

4 The king said to Ziba, "Everything that belonged to Mephibosheth is yours." "I am your servant," Ziba replied. "May I always please Your Majesty!"

5 When King David arrived at Bahurim, one of Saul's relatives, Shimei son of Gera, came out to meet him, cursing him as he came.

6 Shimei started throwing stones at David and his officials, even though David was surrounded by his men and his bodyguards.

7 Shimei cursed him and said, "Get out! Get out! Murderer! Criminal!

8 You took Saul's kingdom, and now the Lord is punishing you for murdering so many of Saul's family. The Lord has given the kingdom to your son Absalom, and you are ruined, you murderer!"

9 Abishai, whose mother was Zeruiah, said to the king, "Your Majesty, why do you let this dog curse you? Let me go over there and cut off his head!"

10 "This is none of your business," the king said to Abishai and his brother Joab. "If he curses me because the Lord told him to, who has the right to ask why he does it?"

11 And David said to Abishai and to all his officials, "My own son is trying to kill me; so why should you be surprised at this Benjaminite? The Lord told him to curse; so leave him alone and let him do it.

12 Perhaps the Lord will notice my misery and give me some blessings to take the place of his curse."

13 So David and his men continued along the road. Shimei kept up with them, walking on the hillside; he was cursing and throwing stones and dirt at them as he went.

14 The king and all his men were worn out when they reached the Jordan, and there they rested.

15 Absalom and all the Israelites with him entered Jerusalem, and Ahithophel was with them.

16 When Hushai, David's trusted friend, met Absalom, he shouted, "Long live the king! Long live the king!"

17 "What has happened to your loyalty to your friend David?" Absalom asked him. "Why didn't you go with him?"

18 Hushai answered, "How could I? I am for the one chosen by the Lord, by these people, and by all the Israelites. I will stay with you.

19 After all, whom should I serve, if not my master's son? As I served your father, so now I will serve you."

20 Then Absalom turned to Ahithophel and said, "Now that we are here, what do you advise us to do?"

21 Ahithophel answered, "Go and have intercourse with your father's concubines whom he left behind to take care of the palace. Then everyone in Israel will know that your father regards you as his enemy, and your followers will be greatly encouraged."

22 So they set up a tent for Absalom on the palace roof, and in the sight of everyone Absalom went in and had intercourse with his father's concubines.

23 Any advice that Ahithophel gave in those days was accepted as though it were the very word of God; both David and Absalom followed it.
