1 OR Davide adunò di nuovo tutti gli uomini scelti d’Israele in numero di trentamila.

2 E Davide, con tutto quel popolo ch’era con lui, si mosse di Baale-Giuda, e andò per trasportar di là l’Arca di Dio, la quale si chiama del Nome del Signore degli eserciti, che siede sopra i Cherubini.

3 E posero l’Arca di Dio sopra un carro nuovo, e la menarono via dalla casa di Abinadab, ch’era in sul colle; ed Uzza, ed Ahio, figliuoli di Abinadab, guidavano il carro nuovo.

4 Così menarono via l’Arca di Dio dalla casa di Abinadab, ch’era in sul colle, accompagnandola; e Ahio andava davanti all’Arca.

5 E Davide e tutta la casa d’Israele facevano festa davanti al Signore, sonando d’ogni sorta di strumenti fatti di legno d’abete, con cetere, e con salteri, e con tamburi, e con sistri, e con cembali.

6 Ora, quando furono giunti infino all’aia di Nacon, Uzza stese la mano verso l’Arca di Dio, e la ritenne; perciocchè i buoi l’aveano smossa.

7 E l’ira del Signore si accese contro ad Uzza; e Iddio lo percosse quivi per la sua temerità; ed egli morì quivi presso all’Arca di Dio.

8 E Davide si attristò, per ciò che il Signore avea fatto rottura in Uzza; e chiamò quel luogo Peres-Uzza, il qual nome dura infino a questo giorno.

9 E Davide ebbe in quel dì paura del Signore, e disse: Come entrerebbe l’Arca del Signore appresso di me?

10 E Davide non volle condurre l’Arca del Signore appresso di sè, nella Città di Davide; ma la fece ridurre dentro alla casa di Obed-Edom Ghitteo.

11 E l’Arca del Signore dimorò tre mesi nella casa di Obed-Edom Ghitteo; e il Signore benedisse Obed-Edom, e tutta la sua casa.

12 E fu rapportato e detto al re Davide: Il Signore ha benedetta la casa di Obed-Edom, e tutto quello ch’è suo, per cagione dell’Arca di Dio. Laonde Davide andò, e fece portare l’Arca di Dio dalla casa di Obed-Edom nella città di Davide, con allegrezza.

13 E, quando quelli che portavano l’Arca del Signore erano camminati sei passi, Davide sacrificava un bue e un montone grasso.

14 E Davide saltava di tutta forza davanti al Signore, essendo cinto d’un Efod di lino.

15 Così Davide e tutta la casa d’Israele conducevano l’Arca del Signore, con grida di allegrezza, e con suono di trombe.

16 Or avvenne che, come l’Arca del Signore entrava nella città di Davide, Mical, figliuola di Saulle, riguardò dalla finestra, e vide il re Davide che saltava di forza in presenza del Signore; e lo sprezzò nel cuor suo.

17 Condussero adunque l’Arca del Signore, e la posero nel suo luogo, in mezzo d’un padiglione che Davide le avea teso. E Davide offerse olocausti e sacrificii da render grazie, in presenza del Signore.

18 E, quando Davide ebbe finito di offerire olocausti e sacrificii da render grazie, benedisse il popolo nel Nome del Signore degli eserciti.

19 E spartì a tutto il popolo, a tutta la moltitudine d’Israele, così agli uomini come alle donne, una focaccia di pane, ed un pezzo di carne, ed un fiasco di vino per uno. Poi tutto il popolo se ne andò, ciascuno a casa sua.

20 Davide ancora se ne ritornò per benedir la sua casa. E Mical, figliuola di Saulle, gli uscì incontro, e disse: Quant’è egli stato oggi onorevole al re d’Israele d’essersi oggi scoperto davanti agli occhi delle serventi de’ suoi servitori, non altrimenti che si scoprirebbe un uomo da nulla!

21 E Davide disse a Mical: Sì, nel cospetto del Signore, il quale ha eletto me, anzi che tuo padre, e che alcuno di tutta la sua famiglia, per costituirmi conduttore sopra il suo popolo, sopra Israele; per ciò farò festa nel cospetto del Signore.

22 E mi avvilirò per ciò ancora più di questo, e mi terrò più basso; e pur sarò onorato appo quelle serventi, delle quali tu hai parlato.

23 E Mical, figliuola di Saulle, non ebbe figliuoli, fino al giorno della sua morte.

Good News Translation GNT

1 Once more David called together the best soldiers in Israel, a total of thirty thousand men,

2 and led them to Baalah in Judah, in order to bring from there God's Covenant Box, bearing the name of the Lord Almighty, whose throne is above the winged creatures.

3 They took it from Abinadab's home on the hill and placed it on a new cart. Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were guiding the cart,

4 with Ahio walking in front.

5 David and all the Israelites were dancing and singing with all their might to honor the Lord. They were playing harps, lyres, drums, rattles, and cymbals.

6 As they came to the threshing place of Nacon, the oxen stumbled, and Uzzah reached out and took hold of the Covenant Box.

7 At once the Lord God became angry with Uzzah and killed him because of his irreverence. Uzzah died there beside the Covenant Box,

8 and so that place has been called Perez Uzzah ever since. David was furious because the Lord had punished Uzzah in anger.

9 Then David was afraid of the Lord and said, "How can I take the Covenant Box with me now?"

10 So he decided not to take it with him to Jerusalem; instead, he turned off the road and took it to the house of Obed Edom, a native of the city of Gath.

11 It stayed there three months, and the Lord blessed Obed Edom and his family.

12 King David heard that because of the Covenant Box the Lord had blessed Obed Edom's family and all that he had; so he got the Covenant Box from Obed's house to take it to Jerusalem with a great celebration.

13 After the men carrying the Covenant Box had gone six steps, David had them stop while he offered the Lord a sacrifice of a bull and a fattened calf.

14 David, wearing only a linen cloth around his waist, danced with all his might to honor the Lord.

15 And so he and all the Israelites took the Covenant Box up to Jerusalem with shouts of joy and the sound of trumpets.

16 As the Box was being brought into the city, Michal, Saul's daughter, looked out of the window and saw King David dancing and jumping around in the sacred dance, and she was disgusted with him.

17 They brought the Box and put it in its place in the Tent that David had set up for it. Then he offered sacrifices and fellowship offerings to the Lord.

18 When he had finished offering the sacrifices, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord Almighty

19 and distributed food to them all. He gave each man and woman in Israel a loaf of bread, a piece of roasted meat, and some raisins. Then everyone went home.

20 Afterward, when David went home to greet his family, Michal came out to meet him. "The king of Israel made a big name for himself today!" she said. "He exposed himself like a fool in the sight of the servant women of his officials!"

21 David answered, "I was dancing to honor the Lord, who chose me instead of your father and his family to make me the leader of his people Israel. And I will go on dancing to honor the Lord,

22 and will disgrace myself even more. You may think I am nothing, but those women will think highly of me!"

23 Michal, Saul's daughter, never had any children.
