2 Samuele 7

1 OR avvenne che, abitando il re in casa sua, dopo che il Signore gli ebbe dato riposo da tutti i suoi nemici d’ogn’intorno,

2 egli disse al profeta Natan: Deh! vedi, io abito in una casa di cedri, e l’Arca di Dio abita in mezzo d’un padiglione.

3 E Natan disse al re: Va’, fa’ tutto quello che tu hai nel cuore; perciocchè il Signore è teco.

4 Ma quella stessa notte la parola del Signore fu indirizzata a Natan, dicendo:

5 Va’, e di’ al mio servitore Davide: Così ha detto il Signore: Mi edificheresti tu una casa per mia stanza?

6 Conciossiachè io non sia abitato in casa, dal dì che io trassi fuori di Egitto i figliuoli d’Israele, infino a questo giorno; anzi son camminato qua e là in un padiglione ed in un tabernacolo.

7 Dovunque io son camminato con tutti i figliuoli d’Israele, ho io mai in alcuna maniera parlato di questo ad alcuna delle tribù d’Israele, alla quale io avessi comandato di pascere il mio popolo Israele, dicendo: Perchè non mi avete voi edificata una casa di cedri?

8 Ora dunque, così dirai al mio servitore Davide: Così ha detto il Signore degli eserciti: Io ti ho preso dalla mandra, di dietro alle pecore, acciocchè tu sii conduttore sopra il mio popolo Israele.

9 E sono stato teco dovunque tu sei camminato, ed ho distrutti tutti i tuoi nemici d’innanzi a te, e ti ho acquistato un nome grande, al pari del nome de’ più grandi che sieno in terra.

10 Ed oltre a ciò, costituirò un luogo al mio popolo Israele, e lo pianterò, ed egli abiterà in casa sua, e non sarà più agitato, e gl’iniqui non l’affliggeranno più come prima;

11 eziandio dal dì che io ordinai de’ Giudici sopra il mio popolo Israele; ed io ti darò riposo da tutti i tuoi nemici. Il Signore ti dichiara ancora ch’egli ti farà una casa.

12 Quando i tuoi giorni saranno compiuti, e tu giacerai co’ tuoi padri, io susciterò uno della tua progenie dopo te, il quale sarà uscito delle tue interiora, e stabilirò il suo regno.

13 Egli edificherà una casa al mio Nome, e io farò che il trono del suo regno sarà fermo in perpetuo.

14 Io gli sarò per padre, ed egli mi sarà per figliuolo; e, se pur commette iniquità, io lo castigherò con verga d’uomo, e con battiture di figliuoli d’uomini.

15 Ma la mia benignità non si dipartirà da lui, come io l’ho fatta dipartire da Saulle, il quale io ho rimosso d’innanzi a te.

16 E la tua casa e il tuo regno saranno in perpetuo stabili nel tuo cospetto; il tuo trono sarà fermo in eterno.

17 Natan parlò a Davide secondo tutte queste parole, e secondo tutta questa visione.

18 Allora il re Davide venne, e si fermò davanti al Signore, e disse: Chi sono io, Signore Iddio, e quale è la casa mia, che tu mi abbia fatto pervenire infino a questo grado?

19 E pure anche, o Signore Iddio, ciò ti è paruto poco; onde hai parlato della casa del tuo servitore per un lungo tempo a venire. E pure, o Signore Iddio, è questo una legge d’uomini?

20 E che saprebbe Davide dirti di più? ma, Signore Iddio, tu conosci il tuo servitore.

21 Per amor della tua parola, e secondo il tuo cuore, tu hai operata tutta questa gran cosa, facendo assapere questo al tuo servitore.

22 Perciò, Signore Iddio, tu sei magnificato; imperocchè non vi è niuno pari a te, e non vi è alcun Dio fuor che te, secondo tutte le cose che noi abbiamo udite con le nostre orecchie.

23 E quale è l’unica gente in terra pari al tuo popolo Israele? per lo quale Iddio è andato per riscattarselo per suo popolo, e per acquistarsi un nome, e per operare inverso voi, o Israele, queste cose grandi, ed effetti tremendi, o Dio, verso il tuo paese, per amor del tuo popolo, il qual tu ti hai riscosso di Egitto, dalle genti, e da’ loro dii.

24 E ti hai stabilito il tuo popolo Israele per tuo popolo in perpetuo; e tu, Signore, sei stato loro Dio.

25 Ora dunque, Signore Iddio, attieni in perpetuo la parola che tu hai detta intorno al tuo servitore e alla sua casa, ed opera come tu hai parlato.

26 E sia il tuo Nome magnificato in eterno; e dicasi: Il Signore degli eserciti è Dio sopra Israele; e sia la casa del tuo servitore Davide ferma davanti a te.

27 Perciocchè tu, Signore degli eserciti, Dio d’Israele, hai rivelato e detto al tuo servitore: Io ti edificherò una casa; e però il tuo servitore ha trovato il suo cuore, per farti questa orazione.

28 Ora dunque, Signore Iddio, tu sei Iddio; e le tue parole, con le quali tu hai promesso al tuo servitore questo bene, saranno verità.

29 Ed ora, piacciati benedir la casa del tuo servitore, acciocchè ella duri davanti a te in perpetuo; conciossiachè tu, Signore Iddio, abbi parlato. Sia dunque la casa del tuo servitore benedetta della tua benedizione in perpetuo.

Good News Translation GNT

1 King David was settled in his palace, and the Lord kept him safe from all his enemies.

2 Then the king said to the prophet Nathan, "Here I am living in a house built of cedar, but God's Covenant Box is kept in a tent!"

3 Nathan answered, "Do whatever you have in mind, because the Lord is with you."

4 But that night the Lord said to Nathan,

5 "Go and tell my servant David that I say to him, "You are not the one to build a temple for me to live in.

6 From the time I rescued the people of Israel from Egypt until now, I have never lived in a temple; I have traveled around living in a tent.

7 In all my traveling with the people of Israel I never asked any of the leaders that I appointed why they had not built me a temple made of cedar.'

8 "So tell my servant David that I, the Lord Almighty, say to him, "I took you from looking after sheep in the fields and made you the ruler of my people Israel.

9 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have defeated all your enemies as you advanced. I will make you as famous as the greatest leaders in the world.

10 I have chosen a place for my people Israel and have settled them there, where they will live without being oppressed any more. Ever since they entered this land, they have been attacked by violent people, but this will not happen again. I promise to keep you safe from all your enemies and to give you descendants.

12 When you die and are buried with your ancestors, I will make one of your sons king and will keep his kingdom strong.

13 He will be the one to build a temple for me, and I will make sure that his dynasty continues forever.

14 I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him as a father punishes his son.

15 But I will not withdraw my support from him as I did from Saul, whom I removed so that you could be king.

16 You will always have descendants, and I will make your kingdom last forever. Your dynasty will never end.' "

17 Nathan told David everything that God had revealed to him.

18 Then King David went into the Tent of the Lord's presence, sat down and prayed, "Sovereign Lord, I am not worthy of what you have already done for me, nor is my family.

19 Yet now you are doing even more, Sovereign Lord; you have made promises about my descendants in the years to come. And you let a man see this, Sovereign Lord!

20 What more can I say to you! You know me, your servant.

21 It was your will and purpose to do this; you have done all these great things in order to instruct me.

22 How great you are, Sovereign Lord! There is none like you; we have always known that you alone are God.

23 There is no other nation on earth like Israel, whom you rescued from slavery to make them your own people. The great and wonderful things you did for them have spread your fame throughout the world. You drove out other nations and their gods as your people advanced, the people whom you set free from Egypt to be your own.

24 You have made Israel your own people forever, and you, Lord, have become their God.

25 "And now, Lord God, fulfill for all time the promise you made about me and my descendants, and do what you said you would.

26 Your fame will be great, and people will forever say, "The Lord Almighty is God over Israel.' And you will preserve my dynasty for all time.

27 Lord Almighty, God of Israel! I have the courage to pray this prayer to you, because you have revealed all this to me, your servant, and have told me that you will make my descendants kings.

28 "And now, Sovereign Lord, you are God; you always keep your promises, and you have made this wonderful promise to me.

29 I ask you to bless my descendants so that they will continue to enjoy your favor. You, Sovereign Lord, have promised this, and your blessing will rest on my descendants forever."
