2 Peter 1:16-21

NIV 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. NRS 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty. NIV 17 He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” NRS 17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father when that voice was conveyed to him by the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my Son, my Beloved, with whom I am well pleased." NIV 18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain. NRS 18 We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven, while we were with him on the holy mountain. NIV 19 We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. NRS 19 So we have the prophetic message more fully confirmed. You will do well to be attentive to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. NIV 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. NRS 20 First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, NIV 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. NRS 21 because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
