2 Corinthians 10:1-11

NKJV 1 Now I, Paul, myself am pleading with you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ--who in presence am lowly among you, but being absent am bold toward you. NIV 1 By the humility and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you—I, Paul, who am “timid” when face to face with you, but “bold” toward you when away! NKJV 2 But I beg you that when I am present I may not be bold with that confidence by which I intend to be bold against some, who think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. NIV 2 I beg you that when I come I may not have to be as bold as I expect to be toward some people who think that we live by the standards of this world. NKJV 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. NIV 3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. NKJV 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, NIV 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. NKJV 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, NIV 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. NKJV 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. NIV 6 And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete. NKJV 7 Do you look at things according to the outward appearance? If anyone is convinced in himself that he is Christ's, let him again consider this in himself, that just as he is Christ's, even so we are Christ's. NIV 7 You are judging by appearances. If anyone is confident that they belong to Christ, they should consider again that we belong to Christ just as much as they do. NKJV 8 For even if I should boast somewhat more about our authority, which the Lord gave us for edification and not for your destruction, I shall not be ashamed-- NIV 8 So even if I boast somewhat freely about the authority the Lord gave us for building you up rather than tearing you down, I will not be ashamed of it. NKJV 9 lest I seem to terrify you by letters. NIV 9 I do not want to seem to be trying to frighten you with my letters. NKJV 10 "For his letters," they say, "are weighty and powerful, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible." NIV 10 For some say, “His letters are weighty and forceful, but in person he is unimpressive and his speaking amounts to nothing.” NKJV 11 Let such a person consider this, that what we are in word by letters when we are absent, such we will also be in deed when we are present. NIV 11 Such people should realize that what we are in our letters when we are absent, we will be in our actions when we are present.
