2 Corinthians 11:1-15

GNT 1 I wish you would tolerate me, even when I am a bit foolish. Please do! NIV 1 I hope you will put up with me in a little foolishness. Yes, please put up with me! GNT 2 I am jealous for you, just as God is; you are like a pure virgin whom I have promised in marriage to one man only, Christ himself. NIV 2 I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him. GNT 3 I am afraid that your minds will be corrupted and that you will abandon your full and pure devotion to Christ - in the same way that Eve was deceived by the snake's clever lies. NIV 3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. GNT 4 For you gladly tolerate anyone who comes to you and preaches a different Jesus, not the one we preached; and you accept a spirit and a gospel completely different from the Spirit and the gospel you received from us! NIV 4 For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the Spirit you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough. GNT 5 I do not think that I am the least bit inferior to those very special so-called "apostles" of yours! NIV 5 I do not think I am in the least inferior to those “super-apostles.” GNT 6 Perhaps I am an amateur in speaking, but certainly not in knowledge; we have made this clear to you at all times and in all conditions. NIV 6 I may indeed be untrained as a speaker, but I do have knowledge. We have made this perfectly clear to you in every way. GNT 7 I did not charge you a thing when I preached the Good News of God to you; I humbled myself in order to make you important. Was that wrong of me? NIV 7 Was it a sin for me to lower myself in order to elevate you by preaching the gospel of God to you free of charge? GNT 8 While I was working among you, I was paid by other churches. I was robbing them, so to speak, in order to help you. NIV 8 I robbed other churches by receiving support from them so as to serve you. GNT 9 And during the time I was with you I did not bother you for help when I needed money; the believers who came from Macedonia brought me everything I needed. As in the past, so in the future: I will never be a burden to you! NIV 9 And when I was with you and needed something, I was not a burden to anyone, for the brothers who came from Macedonia supplied what I needed. I have kept myself from being a burden to you in any way, and will continue to do so. GNT 10 By Christ's truth in me, I promise that this boast of mine will not be silenced anywhere in all of Achaia. NIV 10 As surely as the truth of Christ is in me, nobody in the regions of Achaia will stop this boasting of mine. GNT 11 Do I say this because I don't love you? God knows I love you! NIV 11 Why? Because I do not love you? God knows I do! GNT 12 I will go on doing what I am doing now, in order to keep those other "apostles" from having any reason for boasting and saying that they work in the same way that we do. NIV 12 And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about. GNT 13 Those men are not true apostles - they are false apostles, who lie about their work and disguise themselves to look like real apostles of Christ. NIV 13 For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. GNT 14 Well, no wonder! Even Satan can disguise himself to look like an angel of light! NIV 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. GNT 15 So it is no great thing if his servants disguise themselves to look like servants of righteousness. In the end they will get exactly what their actions deserve. NIV 15 It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.
