2 Kings 15:3-17

NLT 3 He did what was pleasing in the LORD ’s sight, just as his father, Amaziah, had done. NIV 3 He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father Amaziah had done. NLT 4 But he did not destroy the pagan shrines, and the people still offered sacrifices and burned incense there. NIV 4 The high places, however, were not removed; the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there. NLT 5 The LORD struck the king with leprosy, which lasted until the day he died. He lived in isolation in a separate house. The king’s son Jotham was put in charge of the royal palace, and he governed the people of the land. NIV 5 The LORD afflicted the king with leprosy until the day he died, and he lived in a separate house. Jotham the king’s son had charge of the palace and governed the people of the land. NLT 6 The rest of the events in Uzziah’s reign and everything he did are recorded in NIV 6 As for the other events of Azariah’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? NLT 7 When Uzziah died, he was buried with his ancestors in the City of David. And his son Jotham became the next king. NIV 7 Azariah rested with his ancestors and was buried near them in the City of David. And Jotham his son succeeded him as king. NLT 8 Zechariah son of Jeroboam II began to rule over Israel in the thirty-eighth year of King Uzziah’s reign in Judah. He reigned in Samaria six months. NIV 8 In the thirty-eighth year of Azariah king of Judah, Zechariah son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned six months. NLT 9 Zechariah did what was evil in the LORD ’s sight, as his ancestors had done. He refused to turn from the sins that Jeroboam son of Nebat had led Israel to commit. NIV 9 He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, as his predecessors had done. He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit. NLT 10 Then Shallum son of Jabesh conspired against Zechariah, assassinated him in public, and became the next king. NIV 10 Shallum son of Jabesh conspired against Zechariah. He attacked him in front of the people, assassinated him and succeeded him as king. NLT 11 The rest of the events in Zechariah’s reign are recorded in NIV 11 The other events of Zechariah’s reign are written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel. NLT 12 So the LORD ’s message to Jehu came true: “Your descendants will be kings of Israel down to the fourth generation.” NIV 12 So the word of the LORD spoken to Jehu was fulfilled: “Your descendants will sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.” NLT 13 Shallum son of Jabesh began to rule over Israel in the thirty-ninth year of King Uzziah’s reign in Judah. Shallum reigned in Samaria only one month. NIV 13 Shallum son of Jabesh became king in the thirty-ninth year of Uzziah king of Judah, and he reigned in Samaria one month. NLT 14 Then Menahem son of Gadi went to Samaria from Tirzah and assassinated him, and he became the next king. NIV 14 Then Menahem son of Gadi went from Tirzah up to Samaria. He attacked Shallum son of Jabesh in Samaria, assassinated him and succeeded him as king. NLT 15 The rest of the events in Shallum’s reign, including his conspiracy, are recorded in NIV 15 The other events of Shallum’s reign, and the conspiracy he led, are written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel. NLT 16 At that time Menahem destroyed the town of Tappuah and all the surrounding countryside as far as Tirzah, because its citizens refused to surrender the town. He killed the entire population and ripped open the pregnant women. NIV 16 At that time Menahem, starting out from Tirzah, attacked Tiphsah and everyone in the city and its vicinity, because they refused to open their gates. He sacked Tiphsah and ripped open all the pregnant women. NLT 17 Menahem son of Gadi began to rule over Israel in the thirty-ninth year of King Uzziah’s reign in Judah. He reigned in Samaria ten years. NIV 17 In the thirty-ninth year of Azariah king of Judah, Menahem son of Gadi became king of Israel, and he reigned in Samaria ten years.
