Deuteronomy 6

LXX 1 And these the commands, and the ordinances, and the judgments, as many as the Lord our God gave commandment to teach you to do so in the land on which ye enter to inherit it. NIV 1 These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, LXX 2 That ye may fear the Lord your God, keep ye all his ordinances, and his commandments, which I command thee to-day, thou, and thy sons, and thy sons' sons, all the days of thy life, that ye may live many days. NIV 2 so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the LORD your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. LXX 3 Hear, therefore, O Israel, and observe to do them, that it may be well with thee, and that ye may be greatly multiplied, as the Lord God of thy fathers said that he would give thee a land flowing with milk and honey: and these the ordinances, and the judgments, which the Lord commanded the children of Israel in the wilderness, when they had gone forth from the land of Egypt. NIV 3 Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, promised you. LXX 4 Hear, O Israel, The Lord our God is one Lord. NIV 4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. LXX 5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy mind, and with all thy soul, and all thy strength. NIV 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. LXX 6 And these words, all that I command thee this day, shall be in thy heart and in thy soul. NIV 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. LXX 7 And thou shalt teach them to thy children, and thou shalt speak of them sitting in the house, and walking by the way, and lying down, and rising up. NIV 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. LXX 8 And thou shalt fasten them for a sign upon thy hand, and it shall be immoveable before thine eyes. NIV 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. LXX 9 And ye shall write them on the lintels of your houses and of your gates. NIV 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. LXX 10 And it shall come to pass when the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware to thy fathers, to Abraam, and to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and beautiful cities which thou didst not build, NIV 10 When the LORD your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you—a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, LXX 11 houses full of all good things which thou didst not fill, wells dug in the rock which thou didst not dig, vineyards and oliveyards which thou didst not plant, then having eaten and been filled, NIV 11 houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant—then when you eat and are satisfied, LXX 12 beware lest thou forget the Lord thy God that brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. NIV 12 be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. LXX 13 Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve; and thou shalt cleave to him, and by his name thou shalt swear. NIV 13 Fear the LORD your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name. LXX 14 Go ye not after other gods of the gods of the nations round about you; NIV 14 Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you; LXX 15 for the Lord thy God in the midst of thee a jealous God, lest the Lord thy God be very angry with thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth. NIV 15 for the LORD your God, who is among you, is a jealous God and his anger will burn against you, and he will destroy you from the face of the land. LXX 16 Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God, as ye tempted him in the temptation. NIV 16 Do not put the LORD your God to the test as you did at Massah. LXX 17 Thou shalt by all means keep the commands of the Lord thy God, the testimonies, and the ordinances, which he commanded thee. NIV 17 Be sure to keep the commands of the LORD your God and the stipulations and decrees he has given you. LXX 18 And thou shalt do that which is pleasing and good before the Lord thy God, that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and inherit the good land, which the Lord sware to your fathers, NIV 18 Do what is right and good in the LORD’s sight, so that it may go well with you and you may go in and take over the good land the LORD promised on oath to your ancestors, LXX 19 to chase all thine enemies from before thy face, as the Lord said. NIV 19 thrusting out all your enemies before you, as the LORD said. LXX 20 And it shall come to pass when thy son shall ask thee at a future time, saying, What are the testimonies, and the ordinances, and the judgments, which the Lord our God has commanded us? NIV 20 In the future, when your son asks you, “What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees and laws the LORD our God has commanded you?” LXX 21 Then shalt thou say to thy son, We were slaves to Pharao in the land of Egypt, and the Lord brought us forth thence with a mighty hand, and with a high arm. NIV 21 tell him: “We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. LXX 22 And the Lord wrought signs and great and grievous wonders in Egypt, on Pharao and on his house before us. NIV 22 Before our eyes the LORD sent signs and wonders—great and terrible—on Egypt and Pharaoh and his whole household. LXX 23 And he brought us out thence to give us this land, which he sware to give to our fathers. NIV 23 But he brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land he promised on oath to our ancestors. LXX 24 And the Lord charged us to observe all these ordinances; to fear the Lord our God, that it may be well with us for ever, that we may live, as even to-day. NIV 24 The LORD commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the LORD our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today. LXX 25 And there shall be mercy to us, if we take heed to keep all these commands before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us. NIV 25 And if we are careful to obey all this law before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness.”
