CSB 1 The word of the Lord came to me: NIV 1 The word of the LORD came to me: CSB 2 "Now, son of man, lament for Tyre. NIV 2 “Son of man, take up a lament concerning Tyre. CSB 3 Say to Tyre, who is located at the entrance of the sea, merchant of the peoples to many coasts and islands: This is what the Lord God says: Tyre, you declared: I am perfect in beauty. NIV 3 Say to Tyre, situated at the gateway to the sea, merchant of peoples on many coasts, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: “ ‘You say, Tyre, “I am perfect in beauty.” CSB 4 Your realm was in the heart of the sea; your builders perfected your beauty. NIV 4 Your domain was on the high seas; your builders brought your beauty to perfection. CSB 5 They constructed all your planking with pine trees from Senir. They took a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for you. NIV 5 They made all your timbers of juniper from Senir ; they took a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for you. CSB 6 They made your oars of oaks from Bashan. They made your deck of cypress wood from the coasts of Cyprus, [inlaid] with ivory. NIV 6 Of oaks from Bashan they made your oars; of cypress wood from the coasts of Cyprus they made your deck, adorned with ivory. CSB 7 Your sail was [made of] fine embroidered linen from Egypt, and served as your banner. Your awning was of blue and purple fabric from the coasts of Elishah. NIV 7 Fine embroidered linen from Egypt was your sail and served as your banner; your awnings were of blue and purple from the coasts of Elishah. CSB 8 The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were your rowers. Your wise men were within you, Tyre; they were your helmsmen. NIV 8 Men of Sidon and Arvad were your oarsmen; your skilled men, Tyre, were aboard as your sailors. CSB 9 The elders of Gebal and its wise men were within you, repairing your leaks. All the ships of the sea and their sailors came to you to barter for your goods. NIV 9 Veteran craftsmen of Byblos were on board as shipwrights to caulk your seams. All the ships of the sea and their sailors came alongside to trade for your wares. CSB 10 [Men of] Persia, Lud, and Put were in your army, [serving] as your warriors. They hung shields and helmets in you; they gave you splendor. NIV 10 “ ‘Men of Persia, Lydia and Put served as soldiers in your army. They hung their shields and helmets on your walls, bringing you splendor. CSB 11 Men of Arvad and Helech were [stationed] on your walls all around, and Gamadites were in your towers. They hung their shields all around your walls; they perfected your beauty. NIV 11 Men of Arvad and Helek guarded your walls on every side; men of Gammad were in your towers. They hung their shields around your walls; they brought your beauty to perfection. CSB 12 "Tarshish was your trading partner because of [your] great wealth of every kind. They exchanged silver, iron, tin, and lead for your merchandise. NIV 12 “ ‘Tarshish did business with you because of your great wealth of goods; they exchanged silver, iron, tin and lead for your merchandise. CSB 13 Javan, Tubal, and Meshech were your merchants. They exchanged slaves and bronze utensils for your goods. NIV 13 “ ‘Greece, Tubal and Meshek did business with you; they traded human beings and articles of bronze for your wares. CSB 14 Those from Beth-togarmah exchanged horses, war horses, and mules for your merchandise. NIV 14 “ ‘Men of Beth Togarmah exchanged chariot horses, cavalry horses and mules for your merchandise. CSB 15 Men of Dedanwere also your merchants; many coasts and islands were your regular markets. They brought back ivory tusks and ebony as your payment. NIV 15 “ ‘The men of Rhodes traded with you, and many coastlands were your customers; they paid you with ivory tusks and ebony. CSB 16 Aramwas your trading partner because of your numerous products. They exchanged turquoise, purple and embroidered cloth, fine linen, coral, and rubies for your merchandise. NIV 16 “ ‘Aram did business with you because of your many products; they exchanged turquoise, purple fabric, embroidered work, fine linen, coral and rubies for your merchandise. CSB 17 Judah and the land of Israel were your merchants. They exchanged wheat from Minnith, meal, honey, oil, and balm for your goods. NIV 17 “ ‘Judah and Israel traded with you; they exchanged wheat from Minnith and confections, honey, olive oil and balm for your wares. CSB 18 Damascus was also your trading partner because of your numerous products and your great wealth of every kind, [trading] in wine from Helbon and white wool. NIV 18 “ ‘Damascus did business with you because of your many products and great wealth of goods. They offered wine from Helbon, wool from Zahar CSB 19 Vedan and Javan from Uzaldealt in your merchandise; wrought iron, cassia, and aromatic cane were [exchanged] for your goods. NIV 19 and casks of wine from Izal in exchange for your wares: wrought iron, cassia and calamus. CSB 20 Dedan was your merchant in saddlecloths for riding. NIV 20 “ ‘Dedan traded in saddle blankets with you. CSB 21 Arabia and all the princes of Kedar were your business partners, trading with you in lambs, rams, and goats. NIV 21 “ ‘Arabia and all the princes of Kedar were your customers; they did business with you in lambs, rams and goats. CSB 22 The merchants of Sheba and Raamah traded with you. They exchanged gold, the best of all spices, and all kinds of precious stones for your merchandise. NIV 22 “ ‘The merchants of Sheba and Raamah traded with you; for your merchandise they exchanged the finest of all kinds of spices and precious stones, and gold. CSB 23 Haran, Canneh, Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad traded with you. NIV 23 “ ‘Harran, Kanneh and Eden and merchants of Sheba, Ashur and Kilmad traded with you. CSB 24 They were your merchants in choice garments, cloaks of blue and embroidered materials, and multicolored carpets, which were bound and secured with cords in your marketplace. NIV 24 In your marketplace they traded with you beautiful garments, blue fabric, embroidered work and multicolored rugs with cords twisted and tightly knotted. CSB 25 Ships of Tarshish were the carriers for your goods. So you became full and heavily loaded in the heart of the sea. NIV 25 “ ‘The ships of Tarshish serve as carriers for your wares. You are filled with heavy cargo as you sail the sea. CSB 26 Your rowers have brought you onto the high seas, but the east wind has shattered you in the heart of the sea. NIV 26 Your oarsmen take you out to the high seas. But the east wind will break you to pieces far out at sea. CSB 27 Your wealth, merchandise, and goods, your sailors and helmsmen, those who repair your leaks, those who barter for your goods, and all the warriors within you, with all the other people on board, sink into the heart of the sea on the day of your downfall. NIV 27 Your wealth, merchandise and wares, your mariners, sailors and shipwrights, your merchants and all your soldiers, and everyone else on board will sink into the heart of the sea on the day of your shipwreck. CSB 28 The countryside shakes at the sound of your sailors' cries. NIV 28 The shorelands will quake when your sailors cry out. CSB 29 All those who handle an oar disembark from their ships. The sailors and all the helmsmen of the sea stand on the shore. NIV 29 All who handle the oars will abandon their ships; the mariners and all the sailors will stand on the shore. CSB 30 They raise their voices over you and cry out bitterly. They throw dust on their heads; they roll in ashes. NIV 30 They will raise their voice and cry bitterly over you; they will sprinkle dust on their heads and roll in ashes. CSB 31 They shave their heads because of you and wrap themselves in sackcloth. They weep over you with deep anguish and bitter mourning. NIV 31 They will shave their heads because of you and will put on sackcloth. They will weep over you with anguish of soul and with bitter mourning. CSB 32 In their wailing they lament for you, mourning over you: Who was like Tyre, silenced in the middle of the sea? NIV 32 As they wail and mourn over you, they will take up a lament concerning you: “Who was ever silenced like Tyre, surrounded by the sea?” CSB 33 When your merchandise was unloaded from the seas, you satisfied many peoples. You enriched the kings of the earth with your abundant wealth and goods. NIV 33 When your merchandise went out on the seas, you satisfied many nations; with your great wealth and your wares you enriched the kings of the earth. CSB 34 Now you are shattered by the sea in the depths of the waters; your goods and the people within you have gone down. NIV 34 Now you are shattered by the sea in the depths of the waters; your wares and all your company have gone down with you. CSB 35 All the inhabitants of the coasts and islands are appalled at you. Their kings shudder with fear; [their] faces are contorted. NIV 35 All who live in the coastlands are appalled at you; their kings shudder with horror and their faces are distorted with fear. CSB 36 Those who trade among the peoples hiss at you; you have become an object of horror and will never exist again." NIV 36 The merchants among the nations scoff at you; you have come to a horrible end and will be no more.’ ”
