Ezekiel 9

JUB 1 And he cried in my ears with a loud voice, saying, The visitors of the city have come, even each one with his destroying weapon in his hand. NIV 1 Then I heard him call out in a loud voice, “Bring near those who are appointed to execute judgment on the city, each with a weapon in his hand.” JUB 2 And, behold, six men came from the way of the higher gate, which lies toward the north, and each man had a slaughter weapon in his hand; and one man among them was clothed with linen with a writer’s inkhorn by his side; and they went in and stood beside the brazen altar. NIV 2 And I saw six men coming from the direction of the upper gate, which faces north, each with a deadly weapon in his hand. With them was a man clothed in linen who had a writing kit at his side. They came in and stood beside the bronze altar. JUB 3 And the glory of the God of Israel went up from over the cherubim, upon which he had been, to the threshold of the house. And he called to the man clothed with linen, who had the writer’s inkhorn by his side; NIV 3 Now the glory of the God of Israel went up from above the cherubim, where it had been, and moved to the threshold of the temple. Then the LORD called to the man clothed in linen who had the writing kit at his side JUB 4 and the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry out because of all the abominations that are done in the midst of her. NIV 4 and said to him, “Go throughout the city of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of those who grieve and lament over all the detestable things that are done in it.” JUB 5 And to the others he said in my hearing, Go after him through the city and smite; do not let your eye forgive, neither have mercy. NIV 5 As I listened, he said to the others, “Follow him through the city and kill, without showing pity or compassion. JUB 6 Slay the old, the young men, and the virgins, the children and the women, but do not come near anyone upon whom is the mark; and ye must begin from my sanctuary. Then they began with the men, the elders, which were in front of the temple. NIV 6 Slaughter the old men, the young men and women, the mothers and children, but do not touch anyone who has the mark. Begin at my sanctuary.” So they began with the old men who were in front of the temple. JUB 7 And he said unto them, Defile the house and fill the courts with the slain; go forth. And they went forth and slew in the city. NIV 7 Then he said to them, “Defile the temple and fill the courts with the slain. Go!” So they went out and began killing throughout the city. JUB 8 And it came to pass, after they had slain them, I was left, and I fell upon my face and cried out and said, Ah Lord GOD! wilt thou destroy all the remnant of Israel in thy pouring out of thy fury upon Jerusalem? NIV 8 While they were killing and I was left alone, I fell facedown, crying out, “Alas, Sovereign LORD! Are you going to destroy the entire remnant of Israel in this outpouring of your wrath on Jerusalem?” JUB 9 Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness, for they have said, The LORD has forsaken the earth, and the LORD does not see. NIV 9 He answered me, “The sin of the people of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great; the land is full of bloodshed and the city is full of injustice. They say, ‘The LORD has forsaken the land; the LORD does not see.’ JUB 10 And as for me also, my eye shall not forgive, neither will I have mercy, but I will recompense their way upon their head. NIV 10 So I will not look on them with pity or spare them, but I will bring down on their own heads what they have done.” JUB 11 And, behold, the man clothed with linen, who had the inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, I have done according to all thou hast commanded me. NIV 11 Then the man in linen with the writing kit at his side brought back word, saying, “I have done as you commanded.”
