1 Profecía que tuvo en visión el profeta Habacuc.

2 ¿Hasta cuándo, oh SEÑOR, pediré ayuda, y no escucharás, clamaré a ti: ¡Violencia! y no salvarás?

3 ¿Por qué me haces ver la iniquidad, y me haces mirar la opresión? La destrucción y la violencia están delante de mí, hay rencilla y surge discordia.

4 Por eso no se cumple la ley y nunca prevalece la justicia. Pues el impío asedia al justo; por eso sale pervertida la justicia.

5 Mirad entre las naciones, observad, asombraos, admiraos; porque haré una obra en vuestros días que no creeríais si se os contara.

6 Porque he aquí, yo levanto a los caldeos, pueblo feroz e impetuoso, que marcha por la anchura de la tierra para apoderarse de moradas ajenas.

7 Imponente y temible es; de él mismo proceden su justicia y su grandeza.

8 Sus caballos son más veloces que leopardos y más astutos que lobos al anochecer. Al galope vienen sus jinetes, sus jinetes vienen de lejos, vuelan como águila que se precipita a devorar.

9 Vienen todos ellos para hacer violencia, su horda de rostros avanza, recoge cautivos como arena.

10 Se mofa de los reyes, y los gobernantes le son motivo de risa; se ríe de toda fortaleza, amontona escombros para tomarla.

11 Entonces pasará como el viento y seguirá, y se le tendrá por culpable, porque hace de su poder su dios.

12 ¿No eres tú desde la eternidad, oh SEÑOR, Dios mío, Santo mío? No moriremos. Oh SEÑOR, para juicio lo has puesto; tú, oh Roca, lo has establecido para corrección.

13 Muy limpios son tus ojos para mirar el mal, y no puedes contemplar la opresión. ¿Por qué miras con agrado a los que proceden pérfidamente, y callas cuando el impío traga al que es más justo que él?

14 ¿Por qué has hecho a los hombres como peces del mar, como reptiles que no tienen jefe?

15 A todos los saca con anzuelo el pueblo invasor, los arrastra con su red y los junta en su malla. Por eso se alegra y se regocija,

16 por eso ofrece sacrificio a su red y quema incienso a su malla, pues gracias a ellas su pesca es abundante, y suculenta su comida.

17 ¿Vaciará, pues, su red y seguirá matando sin piedad a las naciones?

1 The prophecy that Habakkuk the prophet received.

2 How long, LORD, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, “Violence!” but you do not save?

3 Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrongdoing? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds.

4 Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted.

5 “Look at the nations and watch— and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.

6 I am raising up the Babylonians,that ruthless and impetuous people, who sweep across the whole earth to seize dwellings not their own.

7 They are a feared and dreaded people; they are a law to themselves and promote their own honor.

8 Their horses are swifter than leopards, fiercer than wolves at dusk. Their cavalry gallops headlong; their horsemen come from afar. They fly like an eagle swooping to devour;

9 they all come intent on violence. Their hordes advance like a desert wind and gather prisoners like sand.

10 They mock kings and scoff at rulers. They laugh at all fortified cities; by building earthen ramps they capture them.

11 Then they sweep past like the wind and go on— guilty people, whose own strength is their god.”

12 LORD, are you not from everlasting? My God, my Holy One, you will never die. You, LORD, have appointed them to execute judgment; you, my Rock, have ordained them to punish.

13 Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?

14 You have made people like the fish in the sea, like the sea creatures that have no ruler.

15 The wicked foe pulls all of them up with hooks, he catches them in his net, he gathers them up in his dragnet; and so he rejoices and is glad.

16 Therefore he sacrifices to his net and burns incense to his dragnet, for by his net he lives in luxury and enjoys the choicest food.

17 Is he to keep on emptying his net, destroying nations without mercy?
