CEB 1 The prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according to Shigionoth: NIV 1 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet. On shigionoth. CEB 2 LORD, I have heard your reputation. I have seen your work. Over time, revive it. Over time, make it known. Though angry, remember compassion. NIV 2 LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, LORD. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy. CEB 3 God comes from Teman and the holy one from the mountain of Paran. Selah His majesty covers the heavens and his praise fills the earth. NIV 3 God came from Teman, the Holy One from Mount Paran.His glory covered the heavens and his praise filled the earth. CEB 4 His radiance is like the sunlight, with rays flashing from his hand. That is the hiding place of his power. NIV 4 His splendor was like the sunrise; rays flashed from his hand, where his power was hidden. CEB 5 Pestilence walks in front of him. Plague marches at his feet. NIV 5 Plague went before him; pestilence followed his steps. CEB 6 He stops and measures the earth. He looks and sets out against the nations. The everlasting mountains collapse; the eternal hills bow down; the eternal paths belong to him. NIV 6 He stood, and shook the earth; he looked, and made the nations tremble. The ancient mountains crumbled and the age-old hills collapsed— but he marches on forever. CEB 7 I saw the tents of Cushan under duress. The curtains of the land of Midian were quaking. NIV 7 I saw the tents of Cushan in distress, the dwellings of Midian in anguish. CEB 8 Was the LORD raging against the rivers? Or was your anger directed against the rivers? Or was your fury directed against the sea when you rode on your horses or rode your chariots to victory? NIV 8 Were you angry with the rivers, LORD? Was your wrath against the streams? Did you rage against the sea when you rode your horses and your chariots to victory? CEB 9 You raise up your empty bow, uttering curses for the arrows.Selah With rivers you split open the earth. NIV 9 You uncovered your bow, you called for many arrows. You split the earth with rivers; CEB 10 The mountains see you and writhe. A flood of water rushes through. The deep utters its voice; it raises its hands aloft. NIV 10 the mountains saw you and writhed. Torrents of water swept by; the deep roared and lifted its waves on high. CEB 11 Sun and moon stand still high above. With the light, your arrows shoot, your spear at the flash of lightning. NIV 11 Sun and moon stood still in the heavens at the glint of your flying arrows, at the lightning of your flashing spear. CEB 12 In fury, you stride the earth; in anger you tread the nations. NIV 12 In wrath you strode through the earth and in anger you threshed the nations. CEB 13 You go out to save your people. For the salvation of your anointed you smashed the head of the house of wickedness, laying bare the foundation up to the neck. Selah NIV 13 You came out to deliver your people, to save your anointed one. You crushed the leader of the land of wickedness, you stripped him from head to foot. CEB 14 You pierce the head of his warrior with his own spear. His warriors are driven off, those who take delight in oppressing us, those who take pleasure in secretly devouring the poor. NIV 14 With his own spear you pierced his head when his warriors stormed out to scatter us, gloating as though about to devour the wretched who were in hiding. CEB 15 You make your horses tread on the sea; turbulent waters foam. NIV 15 You trampled the sea with your horses, churning the great waters. CEB 16 I hear and my insides tremble. My lips quiver at the sound. Rottenness enters my bones. I tremble while I stand, while I wait for the day of distress to come against the people who attack us. NIV 16 I heard and my heart pounded, my lips quivered at the sound; decay crept into my bones, and my legs trembled. Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity to come on the nation invading us. CEB 17 Though the fig tree doesn't bloom, and there's no produce on the vine; though the olive crop withers, and the fields don't provide food; though the sheep is cut off from the pen, and there is no cattle in the stalls; NIV 17 Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, CEB 18 I will rejoice in the LORD. I will rejoice in the God of my deliverance. NIV 18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. CEB 19 The LORD God is my strength. He will set my feet like the deer. He will let me walk upon the heights. NIV 19 The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.
