Hebrews 1

MSG 1 Going through a long line of prophets, God has been addressing our ancestors in different ways for centuries. ESV 1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, MSG 2 Recently he spoke to us directly through his Son. By his Son, God created the world in the beginning, and it will all belong to the Son at the end. ESV 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. MSG 3 This Son perfectly mirrors God, and is stamped with God's nature. He holds everything together by what he says - powerful words! The Son Is Higher than Angels ESV 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, MSG 4 far higher than any angel in rank and rule. ESV 4 having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. MSG 5 Did God ever say to an angel, "You're my Son; today I celebrate you"? Or, "I'm his Father, he's my Son"? ESV 5 For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son, today I have begotten you"?Or again, "I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son"? MSG 6 When he presents his honored Son to the world, he says, "All angels must worship him." ESV 6 And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says, "Let all God's angels worship him." MSG 7 Regarding angels he says, The messengers are winds, the servants are tongues of fire. ESV 7 Of the angels he says, "He makes his angels winds, and his ministers a flame of fire." MSG 8 But he says to the Son, You're God, and on the throne for good; your rule makes everything right. ESV 8 But of the Son he says, "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom. MSG 9 You love it when things are right; you hate it when things are wrong. That is why God, your God, poured fragrant oil on your head, Marking you out as king, far above your dear companions. ESV 9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions." MSG 10 And again to the Son, You, Master, started it all, laid earth's foundations, then crafted the stars in the sky. ESV 10 And, "You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; MSG 11 Earth and sky will wear out, but not you; they become threadbare like an old coat; ESV 11 they will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment, MSG 12 You'll fold them up like a worn-out cloak, and lay them away on the shelf. But you'll stay the same, year after year; you'll never fade, you'll never wear out. ESV 12 like a robe you will roll them up, like a garment they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end." MSG 13 And did he ever say anything like this to an angel? Sit alongside me here on my throne Until I make your enemies a stool for your feet. ESV 13 And to which of the angels has he ever said, "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet"? MSG 14 Isn't it obvious that all angels are sent to help out with those lined up to receive salvation? ESV 14 Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?
