Jeremias 1

LXX 1 The word of God which came to Jeremias the of Chelcias, of the priests, who dwelt in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin: NIV 1 The words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests at Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin. LXX 2 as the word of God came to him in the days of Josias son of Amos king of Juda, in the thirteenth year of his reign. NIV 2 The word of the LORD came to him in the thirteenth year of the reign of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah, LXX 3 And it was in the days of Joakim, son of Josias king of Juda, until the eleventh year of Sedekias king of Juda, until the captivity of Jerusalem in the fifth month. NIV 3 and through the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, down to the fifth month of the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah king of Judah, when the people of Jerusalem went into exile. LXX 4 And the word of the Lord came to him, , NIV 4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying, LXX 5 Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth from the womb, I sanctified thee; I appointed thee a prophet to the nations. NIV 5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” LXX 6 And I said, O Lord, thou that art supreme Lord, behold, I know not to speak, for I am a child. NIV 6 “Alas, Sovereign LORD,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.” LXX 7 And the Lord said to me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all to whomsoever I shall send thee, and according to all that I shall command thee, thou shalt speak. NIV 7 But the LORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. LXX 8 Be not afraid before them: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord. NIV 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the LORD. LXX 9 And the Lord stretched forth his hand to me, and touched my mouth: and the Lord said to me, Behold, I have put my words into thy mouth. NIV 9 Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth. LXX 10 Behold, I have appointed thee this day over nations and over kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to rebuild, and to plant. NIV 10 See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.” LXX 11 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, What seest thou? And I said, A rod of an almond tree. NIV 11 The word of the LORD came to me: “What do you see, Jeremiah?” “I see the branch of an almond tree,” I replied. LXX 12 And the Lord said to me, Thou hast well seen: for I have watched over my words to perform them. NIV 12 The LORD said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.” LXX 13 And the word of the Lord came to me a second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, A caldron on the fire; and the face of it is toward the north. NIV 13 The word of the LORD came to me again: “What do you see?” “I see a pot that is boiling,” I answered. “It is tilting toward us from the north.” LXX 14 And the Lord said to me, From the north shall flame forth evils upon all the inhabitants of the land. NIV 14 The LORD said to me, “From the north disaster will be poured out on all who live in the land. LXX 15 For, behold, I call together all the kingdoms of the earth from the north, saith the Lord; and they shall come, and shall set each one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls round about her, and against all the cities of Juda. NIV 15 I am about to summon all the peoples of the northern kingdoms,” declares the LORD. “Their kings will come and set up their thrones in the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem; they will come against all her surrounding walls and against all the towns of Judah. LXX 16 And I will speak to them in judgment, concerning all their iniquity, as they have forsaken me, and sacrificed to strange gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands. NIV 16 I will pronounce my judgments on my people because of their wickedness in forsaking me, in burning incense to other gods and in worshiping what their hands have made. LXX 17 And do thou gird up thy loins, and stand up, and speak all that I shall command thee: be not afraid of their face, neither be thou alarmed before them; for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord. NIV 17 “Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them. LXX 18 Behold, I have made thee this day as a strong city, and as a brazen wall, strong all the kings of Juda, and the princes thereof, and the people of the land. NIV 18 Today I have made you a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests and the people of the land. LXX 19 And they shall fight against thee; but they shall by no means prevail against thee; because I am with thee, to deliver thee, saith the Lord. NIV 19 They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the LORD.
