Job 23

BBE 1 And Job made answer and said, NIV 1 Then Job replied: BBE 2 Even today my outcry is bitter; his hand is hard on my sorrow. NIV 2 “Even today my complaint is bitter; his hand is heavy in spite of my groaning. BBE 3 If only I had knowledge of where he might be seen, so that I might come even to his seat! NIV 3 If only I knew where to find him; if only I could go to his dwelling! BBE 4 I would put my cause in order before him, and my mouth would be full of arguments NIV 4 I would state my case before him and fill my mouth with arguments. BBE 5 I would see what his answers would be, and have knowledge of what he would say to me. NIV 5 I would find out what he would answer me, and consider what he would say to me. BBE 6 Would he make use of his great power to overcome me? No, but he would give attention to me. NIV 6 Would he vigorously oppose me? No, he would not press charges against me. BBE 7 There an upright man might put his cause before him; and I would be free for ever from my judge. NIV 7 There the upright can establish their innocence before him, and there I would be delivered forever from my judge. BBE 8 See, I go forward, but he is not there; and back, but I do not see him; NIV 8 “But if I go to the east, he is not there; if I go to the west, I do not find him. BBE 9 I am looking for him on the left hand, but there is no sign of him; and turning to the right, I am not able to see him. NIV 9 When he is at work in the north, I do not see him; when he turns to the south, I catch no glimpse of him. BBE 10 For he has knowledge of the way I take; after I have been tested I will come out like gold. NIV 10 But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold. BBE 11 My feet have gone in his steps; I have kept in his way, without turning to one side or to the other. NIV 11 My feet have closely followed his steps; I have kept to his way without turning aside. BBE 12 I have never gone against the orders of his lips; the words of his mouth have been stored up in my heart. NIV 12 I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread. BBE 13 But his purpose is fixed and there is no changing it; and he gives effect to the desire of his soul. NIV 13 “But he stands alone, and who can oppose him? He does whatever he pleases. BBE 14 For what has been ordered for me by him will be gone through to the end: and his mind is full of such designs NIV 14 He carries out his decree against me, and many such plans he still has in store. BBE 15 For this cause I am in fear before him, my thoughts of him overcome me. NIV 15 That is why I am terrified before him; when I think of all this, I fear him. BBE 16 For God has made my heart feeble, and my mind is troubled before the Ruler of all. NIV 16 God has made my heart faint; the Almighty has terrified me. BBE 17 For I am overcome by the dark, and by the black night which is covering my face. NIV 17 Yet I am not silenced by the darkness, by the thick darkness that covers my face.
