John 1

CEB 1 In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. NRS 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. CEB 2 The Word was with God in the beginning. NRS 2 He was in the beginning with God. CEB 3 Everything came into being through the Word, and without the Word nothing came into being. John answered, "No." NRS 21 And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the prophet?" He answered, "No." CEB 22 They asked, "Who are you? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?" NRS 22 Then they said to him, "Who are you? Let us have an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?" CEB 23 John replied, "I am a voice crying out in the wilderness, Make the Lord's path straight, just as the prophet Isaiah said." NRS 23 He said, "I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, "Make straight the way of the Lord,' " as the prophet Isaiah said. CEB 24 Those sent by the Pharisees NRS 24 Now they had been sent from the Pharisees. CEB 25 asked, "Why do you baptize if you aren't the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?" NRS 25 They asked him, "Why then are you baptizing if you are neither the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?" CEB 26 John answered, "I baptize with water. Someone greater stands among you, whom you don't recognize. NRS 26 John answered them, "I baptize with water. CEB 46 Nathanael responded, "Can anything from Nazareth be good?" Philip said, "Come and see." NRS 46 Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." CEB 47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said about him, "Here is a genuine Israelite in whom there is no deceit." NRS 47 When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, he said of him, "Here is truly an Israelite in whom there is no deceit!" CEB 48 Nathanael asked him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered, "Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree." NRS 48 Nathanael asked him, "Where did you get to know me?" Jesus answered, "I saw you under the fig tree before Philip called you." CEB 49 Nathanael replied, "Rabbi, you are God's Son. You are the king of Israel." NRS 49 Nathanael replied, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!" CEB 50 Jesus answered, "Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than these! NRS 50 Jesus answered, "Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than these." CEB 51 I assure you that you will see heaven open and God's angels going up to heaven and down to earth on the Human One." NRS 51 And he said to him, "Very truly, I tell you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man."
