John 11:29-39

NLT 29 So Mary immediately went to him. NIV 29 When Mary heard this, she got up quickly and went to him. NLT 30 Jesus had stayed outside the village, at the place where Martha met him. NIV 30 Now Jesus had not yet entered the village, but was still at the place where Martha had met him. NLT 31 When the people who were at the house consoling Mary saw her leave so hastily, they assumed she was going to Lazarus’s grave to weep. So they followed her there. NIV 31 When the Jews who had been with Mary in the house, comforting her, noticed how quickly she got up and went out, they followed her, supposing she was going to the tomb to mourn there. NLT 32 When Mary arrived and saw Jesus, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.” NIV 32 When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” NLT 33 When Jesus saw her weeping and saw the other people wailing with her, a deep anger welled up within him, and he was deeply troubled. NIV 33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. NLT 34 “Where have you put him?” he asked them. They told him, “Lord, come and see.” NIV 34 “Where have you laid him?” he asked. “Come and see, Lord,” they replied. NLT 35 Then Jesus wept. NIV 35 Jesus wept. NLT 36 The people who were standing nearby said, “See how much he loved him!” NIV 36 Then the Jews said, “See how he loved him!” NLT 37 But some said, “This man healed a blind man. Couldn’t he have kept Lazarus from dying?” NIV 37 But some of them said, “Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?” NLT 38 Jesus was still angry as he arrived at the tomb, a cave with a stone rolled across its entrance. NIV 38 Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. NLT 39 “Roll the stone aside,” Jesus told them. But Martha, the dead man’s sister, protested, “Lord, he has been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible.” NIV 39 “Take away the stone,” he said. “But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.”
