Luke 22

JUB 1 Now the feast of unleavened bread drew near, which is called the Passover. NIV 1 Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching, JUB 2 And the princes of the priests and scribes sought how they might kill him, but they feared the people. NIV 2 and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people. JUB 3 Then Satan entered into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. NIV 3 Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. JUB 4 And he went and spoke with the princes of the priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them. NIV 4 And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. JUB 5 And they were glad and covenanted to give him money. NIV 5 They were delighted and agreed to give him money. JUB 6 And he promised and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude. NIV 6 He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present. JUB 7 Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover lamb must be killed. NIV 7 Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. JUB 8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover lamb that we may eat. NIV 8 Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.” JUB 9 And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare? NIV 9 “Where do you want us to prepare for it?” they asked. JUB 10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there ye shall find a man bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he enters in. NIV 10 He replied, “As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house that he enters, JUB 11 And ye shall say unto the husband of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber where I shall eat the passover lamb with my disciples? NIV 11 and say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ JUB 12 And he shall show you a large upper room furnished; there make ready. NIV 12 He will show you a large room upstairs, all furnished. Make preparations there.” JUB 13 And they went and found as he had said unto them; and they made ready the passover lamb. NIV 13 They left and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover. JUB 14 And when the hour was come, he sat down at the table, and the twelve apostles with him. NIV 14 When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. JUB 15 And he said unto them, With desire I have greatly desired to eat this passover lamb with you before I suffer; NIV 15 And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. JUB 16 for I say unto you, I will not eat any more thereof until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God. NIV 16 For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.” JUB 17 And taking the cup, having given thanks, he said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves, NIV 17 After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. JUB 18 for I say unto you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God shall come. NIV 18 For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” JUB 19 And taking bread, having given thanks, he broke it and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. NIV 19 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” JUB 20 Likewise also he took and gave them the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. NIV 20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. JUB 21 But with all this, behold, the hand of him that betrays me is with me on the table. NIV 21 But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table. JUB 22 And truly the Son of man goes as it was determined; but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed! NIV 22 The Son of Man will go as it has been decreed. But woe to that man who betrays him!” JUB 23 And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing. NIV 23 They began to question among themselves which of them it might be who would do this. JUB 24 And there was also a contention among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. NIV 24 A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest. JUB 25 Then he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those that exercise authority upon them are called well-doers. NIV 25 Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. JUB 26 But ye shall not be so, but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is prince, as he that doth serve. NIV 26 But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. JUB 27 For who is greater, he that sits at the table or he that serves? Is it not he that sits at the table? But I am among you as he that serves. NIV 27 For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. JUB 28 But ye are those who have continued with me in my temptations. NIV 28 You are those who have stood by me in my trials. JUB 29 And I appoint unto you a kingdom as my Father has appointed unto me; NIV 29 And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, JUB 30 that ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. NIV 30 so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. JUB 31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has desired to have you that he may sift you as wheat; NIV 31 “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. JUB 32 but I have prayed for thee that thy faith fail not; and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. NIV 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” JUB 33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison and to death. NIV 33 But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.” JUB 34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, thou shalt deny three times that thou knowest me before the cock shall crow this day. NIV 34 Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.” JUB 35 And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse and provision bag and shoes, lacked ye anything? And they said, Nothing. NIV 35 Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?”“Nothing,” they answered. JUB 36 Then he said unto them, But now, he that has a purse, let him take it and likewise his provision bag; and he that has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. NIV 36 He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. JUB 37 For I say unto you that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors; for the things written concerning me have a fulfillment. NIV 37 It is written: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors’; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.” JUB 38 Then they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough. NIV 38 The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.” “That’s enough!” he replied. JUB 39 And he came out and went as he was wont to the mount of Olives, and his disciples also followed him. NIV 39 Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. JUB 40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. NIV 40 On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” JUB 41 And he withdrew from them about a stone’s cast and kneeled down and prayed, NIV 41 He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, JUB 42 saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. NIV 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” JUB 43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. NIV 43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. JUB 44 And being in agony, he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. NIV 44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. JUB 45 And when he rose up from prayer and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow NIV 45 When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. JUB 46 and said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. NIV 46 “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” JUB 47 And while he yet spoke, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him. NIV 47 While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, JUB 48 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss? NIV 48 but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” JUB 49 When those who were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword? NIV 49 When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?” JUB 50 And one of them smote the slave of the prince of the priests and cut off his right ear. NIV 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear. JUB 51 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear and healed him. NIV 51 But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him. JUB 52 Then Jesus said unto the princes of the priests and captains of the temple and the elders, who were come to him, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves? NIV 52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, who had come for him, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs? JUB 53 When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me; but this is your hour, and the power of darkness. NIV 53 Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour—when darkness reigns.” JUB 54 Then they took him and led him and brought him into the house of the prince of the priests. And Peter followed afar off. NIV 54 Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance. JUB 55 And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall and were set down together, Peter sat down among them. NIV 55 And when some there had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them. JUB 56 But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire and earnestly looked upon him and said, This man was also with him. NIV 56 A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, “This man was with him.” JUB 57 And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not. NIV 57 But he denied it. “Woman, I don’t know him,” he said. JUB 58 And after a little while another saw him and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not. NIV 58 A little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” “Man, I am not!” Peter replied. JUB 59 And about the space of one hour after, another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him, for he is a Galilaean. NIV 59 About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.” JUB 60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately while he yet spoke, the cock crew. NIV 60 Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. JUB 61 Then the Lord turned and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord how he had said unto him, Before the cock crows, thou shalt deny me three times. NIV 61 The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.” JUB 62 And Peter went out and wept bitterly. NIV 62 And he went outside and wept bitterly. JUB 63 And the men that held Jesus mocked him and smote him. NIV 63 The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him. JUB 64 And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee? NIV 64 They blindfolded him and demanded, “Prophesy! Who hit you?” JUB 65 And they spoke many other things blasphemously against him. NIV 65 And they said many other insulting things to him. JUB 66 And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the princes of the priests and the scribes came together and led him into their council, saying, NIV 66 At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and the teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them. JUB 67 Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe; NIV 67 “If you are the Messiah,” they said, “tell us.” Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe me, JUB 68 and if I also ask you, ye will not answer me nor let me go; NIV 68 and if I asked you, you would not answer. JUB 69 but from now on the Son of man shall sit on the right hand of the power of God. NIV 69 But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.” JUB 70 Then they all said, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I AM. NIV 70 They all asked, “Are you then the Son of God?” He replied, “You say that I am.” JUB 71 And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth. NIV 71 Then they said, “Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips.”
