1 Jesús predice eventos futuros<br />Cuando Jesús salía del templo ese día, uno de sus discípulos le dijo:<br />—Maestro, ¡mira estos magníficos edificios! Observa las impresionantes piedras en los muros.

2 Jesús respondió:

3 Más tarde, Jesús se sentó en el monte de los Olivos, al otro lado del valle del templo. Pedro, Santiago, Juan y Andrés se le acercaron en privado y le preguntaron:

4 —Dinos, ¿cuándo sucederá todo eso? ¿Qué señal nos indicará que esas cosas están por cumplirse?

5 Jesús contestó:

6 porque muchos vendrán en mi nombre y afirmarán: “Yo soy el Mesías”<br />. Engañarán a muchos.

7 Y ustedes oirán de guerras y de amenazas de guerras, pero no se dejen llevar por el pánico. Es verdad, esas cosas deben suceder, pero el fin no vendrá inmediatamente después.

8 Una nación entrará en guerra con otra, y un reino con otro reino. Habrá terremotos en muchas partes del mundo, y también hambres; pero eso es solo el comienzo de los dolores del parto, luego vendrán más.

9 »Cuando esas cosas comiencen a suceder, ¡tengan cuidado! Los entregarán a los tribunales y los golpearán en las sinagogas. Serán sometidos a juicio ante gobernantes y reyes por ser mis seguidores, pero esa será una oportunidad para que ustedes les hablen de mí.

10 Pues la Buena Noticia primero tiene que ser predicada a todas las naciones.

11 Cuando los arresten y los sometan a juicio, no se preocupen de antemano por lo que van a decir. Solo hablen lo que Dios les diga en ese momento, porque no serán ustedes los que hablen, sino el Espíritu Santo.

12 »Un hermano traicionará a muerte a su hermano, un padre traicionará a su propio hijo, y los hijos se rebelarán contra sus padres y harán que los maten.

13 Todos los odiarán a ustedes por ser mis seguidores,<br /> pero el que se mantenga firme hasta el fin será salvo.

15 La persona que esté en la azotea no baje a la casa para empacar.

16 El que esté en el campo no regrese ni para buscar un abrigo.

17 ¡Qué terribles serán esos días para las mujeres embarazadas y para las madres que amamantan!

18 Y oren para que la huída no sea en invierno.

19 Pues habrá más angustia en esos días que en cualquier otro momento desde que Dios creó al mundo. Y jamás habrá una angustia tan grande.

20 De hecho, a menos que el Señor acorte ese tiempo de calamidad, ni una sola persona sobrevivirá; pero por el bien de los elegidos, él ha acortado esos días.

21 »Entonces, si alguien les dice: “Miren, aquí está el Mesías” o “Allí está”, no lo crean.

22 Pues se levantarán falsos mesías y falsos profetas y realizarán señales y milagros para engañar, de ser posible, aun a los elegidos de Dios.

23 ¡Tengan cuidado! ¡Les he advertido esto de antemano!

24 »En ese tiempo, después de la angustia de esos días,<br />el sol se oscurecerá,<br />la luna no dará luz,

25 las estrellas caerán del cielo,<br />y los poderes de los cielos serán sacudidos.

26 »Entonces todos verán al Hijo del Hombre<br /> venir en las nubes con gran poder y gloria.

27 Y él enviará a sus ángeles para que reúnan a los elegidos de todas partes del mundo,<br /> desde los extremos más lejanos de la tierra y del cielo.

28 »Ahora, aprendan una lección de la higuera. Cuando las ramas echan brotes y comienzan a salir las hojas, ustedes saben que el verano se acerca.

29 De la misma manera, cuando vean que suceden todas estas cosas, sabrán que su regreso está muy cerca, a las puertas.

30 Les digo la verdad, no pasará esta generación<br /> hasta que todas estas cosas sucedan.

31 El cielo y la tierra desaparecerán, pero mis palabras no desaparecerán jamás.

32 »Sin embargo, nadie sabe el día ni la hora en que sucederán esas cosas, ni siquiera los ángeles en el cielo ni el propio Hijo. Solo el Padre lo sabe.

33 Y, ya que ustedes tampoco saben cuándo llegará ese tiempo, ¡manténganse en guardia! ¡Estén alerta!

34 »La venida del Hijo del Hombre puede ilustrarse mediante la historia de un hombre que tenía que emprender un largo viaje. Cuando salió de casa, dio instrucciones a cada uno de sus esclavos sobre el trabajo que debían hacer y le dijo al portero que esperara su regreso.

35 ¡Ustedes también deben estar alerta! Pues no saben cuándo regresará el amo de la casa: si en la tarde, a medianoche, durante la madrugada o al amanecer.

36 Que no los encuentre dormidos cuando llegue sin previo aviso.

37 Les digo a ustedes lo que digo a todos: ¡Manténganse despiertos esperándolo a él!

1 As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!”

2 “Do you see all these great buildings?” replied Jesus. “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”

3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John and Andrew asked him privately,

4 “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are all about to be fulfilled?”

5 Jesus said to them: “Watch out that no one deceives you.

6 Many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and will deceive many.

7 When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.

8 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.

9 “You must be on your guard. You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues. On account of me you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them.

10 And the gospel must first be preached to all nations.

11 Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.

12 “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death.

13 Everyone will hate you because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.

14 “When you see ‘the abomination that causes desolation’standing where itoes not belong—let the reader understand—then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.

15 Let no one on the housetop go down or enter the house to take anything out.

16 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak.

17 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers!

18 Pray that this will not take place in winter,

19 because those will be days of distress unequaled from the beginning, when God created the world, until now—and never to be equaled again.

20 “If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them.

21 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it.

22 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

23 So be on your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time.

24 “But in those days, following that distress, “ ‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light;

25 the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’

26 “At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.

27 And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.

28 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near.

29 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that itis near, right at the door.

30 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.

31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

32 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

33 Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.

34 It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.

35 “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn.

36 If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping.

37 What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’ ”
