Mark 1

HNV 1 The beginning of the Good News of Yeshua the Messiah, the Son of God. NIV 1 The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God, HNV 2 As it is written in the prophets, "Behold, I send my messenger before your face, Who will prepare your way before you. NIV 2 as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way” — HNV 3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make ready the way of the Lord! Make his paths straight!'" NIV 3 “a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’ ” HNV 4 Yochanan came immersing in the wilderness and preaching the immersion of repentance for forgiveness of sins. NIV 4 And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. HNV 5 All the country of Yehudah and all those of Yerushalayim went out to him. They were immersed by him in the Yarden river, confessing their sins. NIV 5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. HNV 6 Yochanan was clothed with camel's hair and a leather belt around his loins. He ate locusts and wild honey. NIV 6 John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. HNV 7 He preached, saying, "After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and loosen. NIV 7 And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. HNV 8 I immersed you in water, but he will immerse you in the Ruach HaKodesh." NIV 8 I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” HNV 9 It happened in those days, that Yeshua came from Natzeret of the Galil, and was immersed by Yochanan in the Yarden. NIV 9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. HNV 10 Immediately coming up from the water, he saw the heavens parting, and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. NIV 10 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. HNV 11 A voice came out of the sky, "You are my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." NIV 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” HNV 12 Immediately the Spirit drove him out into the wilderness. NIV 12 At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, HNV 13 He was there in the wilderness forty days tempted by Hasatan. He was with the wild animals; and the angels ministered to him. NIV 13 and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him. HNV 14 Now after Yochanan was taken into custody, Yeshua came into the Galil, preaching the Good News of the kingdom of God, NIV 14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. HNV 15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand! Repent, and believe in the Good News." NIV 15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” HNV 16 Passing along by the sea of the Galil, he saw Shim`on and Andrai the brother of Shim`on casting a net in the sea, for they were fishermen. NIV 16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. HNV 17 Yeshua said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you into fishers for men." NIV 17 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” HNV 18 Immediately they left their nets, and followed him. NIV 18 At once they left their nets and followed him. HNV 19 Going on a little further from there, he saw Ya`akov the son of Zavdai, and Yochanan, his brother, who were also in the boat mending the nets. NIV 19 When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. HNV 20 Immediately he called them, and they left their father, Zavdai, in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him. NIV 20 Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him. HNV 21 They went into Kafar-Nachum, and immediately on the day of Shabbat he entered into the synagogue and taught. NIV 21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. HNV 22 They were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as having authority, and not as the Sofrim. NIV 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. HNV 23 Immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he cried out, NIV 23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, HNV 24 saying, "Ha! What do we have to do with you, Yeshua, you Natzri? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are: the Holy One of God!" NIV 24 “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” HNV 25 Yeshua rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!" NIV 25 “Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” HNV 26 The unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. NIV 26 The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek. HNV 27 They were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, "What is this? A new teaching? For with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him!" NIV 27 The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.” HNV 28 The report of him went out immediately everywhere into all the region of the Galil and its surrounding area. NIV 28 News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee. HNV 29 Immediately, when they had come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Shim`on and Andrai, with Ya`akov and Yochanan. NIV 29 As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. HNV 30 Now Shim`on's wife's mother lay sick with a fever, and immediately they told him about her. NIV 30 Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. HNV 31 He came and took her by the hand, and raised her up. The fever left her, and she served them. NIV 31 So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them. HNV 32 At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to him all who were sick, and those who were possessed by demons. NIV 32 That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. HNV 33 All the city was gathered together at the door. NIV 33 The whole town gathered at the door, HNV 34 He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. He didn't allow the demons to speak, because they knew him. NIV 34 and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was. HNV 35 Early in the night, he rose up and went out, and departed into a desert place, and there prayed. NIV 35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. HNV 36 Shim`on and those who were with him followed after him; NIV 36 Simon and his companions went to look for him, HNV 37 and they found him, and told him, "Everyone is looking for you." NIV 37 and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!” HNV 38 He said to them, "Let's go elsewhere into the next towns, that I may preach there also, for to this end I came forth." NIV 38 Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” HNV 39 He went into their synagogues throughout all Galil, preaching and casting out demons. NIV 39 So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons. HNV 40 There came to him a leper, begging him, kneeling down to him, and saying to him, "If you want to, you can make me clean." NIV 40 A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.” HNV 41 Being moved with compassion, he stretched forth his hand, and touched him, and said to him, "I want to. Be made clean." NIV 41 Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” HNV 42 When he had said this, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was made clean. NIV 42 Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed. HNV 43 He strictly charged him, and immediately sent him out, NIV 43 Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning: HNV 44 and said to him, "See you say nothing to anybody, but go show yourself to the Kohen, and offer for your cleansing the things which Moshe commanded, for a testimony to them." NIV 44 “See that you don’t tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.” HNV 45 But he went out, and began to proclaim it much, and to spread about the matter, so that Yeshua could no more openly enter into a city, but was outside in desert places: and they came to him from everywhere. NIV 45 Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.
