Mark 15

HNV 1 Immediately in the morning the chief Kohanim, with the Zakenim and Sofrim, and the whole council, held a consultation, and bound Yeshua, and carried him away, and delivered him up to Pilate. NIV 1 Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law and the whole Sanhedrin, made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate. HNV 2 Pilate asked him, "Are you the King of the Yehudim?" He answered, "So you say." NIV 2 “Are you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate. “You have said so,” Jesus replied. HNV 3 The chief Kohanim accused him of many things. NIV 3 The chief priests accused him of many things. HNV 4 Pilate again asked him, "Have you no answer? See how many things they testify against you!" NIV 4 So again Pilate asked him, “Aren’t you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of.” HNV 5 But Yeshua made no further answer, so Pilate marveled. NIV 5 But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed. HNV 6 Now at the feast he used to release to them one prisoner, whom they asked of him. NIV 6 Now it was the custom at the festival to release a prisoner whom the people requested. HNV 7 There was one called Bar-Abba, bound with those who had made insurrection, men who in the insurrection had committed murder. NIV 7 A man called Barabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the uprising. HNV 8 The multitude, crying aloud, began to ask him to do as he always did for them. NIV 8 The crowd came up and asked Pilate to do for them what he usually did. HNV 9 Pilate answered them, saying, "Do you you want me to release to you the King of the Yehudim?" NIV 9 “Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate, HNV 10 For he perceived that for envy the chief Kohanim had delivered him up. NIV 10 knowing it was out of self-interest that the chief priests had handed Jesus over to him. HNV 11 But the chief Kohanim stirred up the multitude, that he should release Bar-Abba to them instead. NIV 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have Pilate release Barabbas instead. HNV 12 Pilate again asked them, "What then should I do to him whom you call the King of the Yehudim?" NIV 12 “What shall I do, then, with the one you call the king of the Jews?” Pilate asked them. HNV 13 They cried out again, "Crucify him!" NIV 13 “Crucify him!” they shouted. HNV 14 Pilate said to them, "Why, what evil has he done?" But they cried out exceedingly, "Crucify him!" NIV 14 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!” HNV 15 Pilate, wishing to please the multitude, released Bar-Abba to them, and delivered Yeshua, when he had flogged him, to be crucified. NIV 15 Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified. HNV 16 The soldiers led him away within the court, which is the Praetorium; and they called together the whole cohort. NIV 16 The soldiers led Jesus away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and called together the whole company of soldiers. HNV 17 They clothed him with purple, and weaving a crown of thorns, they put it on him. NIV 17 They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him. HNV 18 They began to salute him, "Hail, King of the Yehudim!" NIV 18 And they began to call out to him, “Hail, king of the Jews!” HNV 19 They struck his head with a reed, and spat on him, and bowing their knees, did homage to him. NIV 19 Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit on him. Falling on their knees, they paid homage to him. HNV 20 When they had mocked him, they took the purple off of him, and put his own garments on him. They led him out to crucify him. NIV 20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him. HNV 21 They compelled one passing by, coming from the country, Shim`on of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to go with them, that he might bear his cross. NIV 21 A certain man from Cyrene, Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and they forced him to carry the cross. HNV 22 They brought him to the place called Gulgolta, which is, being interpreted, "The place of a skull." NIV 22 They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”). HNV 23 They offered him wine mixed with myrrh to drink, but he didn't take it. NIV 23 Then they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it. HNV 24 Crucifying him, they parted his garments among them, casting lots on them, what each should take. NIV 24 And they crucified him. Dividing up his clothes, they cast lots to see what each would get. HNV 25 It was the third hour, and they crucified him. NIV 25 It was nine in the morning when they crucified him. HNV 26 The superscription of his accusation was written over him, "THE KING OF THE YEHUDIM." NIV 26 The written notice of the charge against him read: THE KING OF THE JEWS. HNV 27 With him they crucified two robbers; one on his right hand, and one on his left. NIV 27 They crucified two rebels with him, one on his right and one on his left. HNV 28 The Scripture was fulfilled, which says, "He was numbered with transgressors." HNV 29 Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads, and saying, "Ha! You who destroy the temple, and build it in three days, NIV 29 Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, “So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, HNV 30 save yourself, and come down from the cross!" NIV 30 come down from the cross and save yourself !” HNV 31 Likewise, also the chief Kohanim mocking among themselves with the Sofrim said, "He saved others. He can't save himself. NIV 31 In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! HNV 32 Let the Messiah, the King of Yisra'el, now come down from the cross, that we may see and believe him." Those who were crucified with him reproached him. NIV 32 Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him. HNV 33 When the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. NIV 33 At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. HNV 34 At the ninth hour Yeshua cried with a loud voice, saying, "Elohi, Elohi, lama shavakhtani?" which is, being interpreted, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" NIV 34 And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”). HNV 35 Some of those who stood by, when they heard it, said, "Behold, he calls Eliyah." NIV 35 When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.” HNV 36 One ran, and filling a sponge full of vinegar, put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink, saying, "Let him be. Let's see whether Eliyah comes to take him down." NIV 36 Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said. HNV 37 Yeshua cried out with a loud voice, and gave up the spirit. NIV 37 With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. HNV 38 The veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom. NIV 38 The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. HNV 39 When the centurion, who stood by opposite him, saw that he cried out like this and breathed his last, he said, "Truly this man was the Son of God!" NIV 39 And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died, he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!” HNV 40 There were also women watching from afar, among whom were both Miryam from Magdala, and Miryam the mother of Ya`akov the less and of Yosi, and Shalomit; NIV 40 Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joseph, and Salome. HNV 41 who, when he was in the Galil, followed him, and served him; and many other women who came up with him to Yerushalayim. NIV 41 In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there. HNV 42 When evening had now come, because it was the Preparation, that is, the day before the Shabbat, NIV 42 It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath). So as evening approached, HNV 43 Yosef of Ramatayim, a member of the council of honorable estate, who also himself was looking for the kingdom of God, came. He boldly went in to Pilate, and asked for Yeshua' body. NIV 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. HNV 44 Pilate marveled if he were already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he had been dead for a while. NIV 44 Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died. HNV 45 When he learned it from the centurion, he granted the body to Yosef. NIV 45 When he learned from the centurion that it was so, he gave the body to Joseph. HNV 46 He bought a linen cloth, and taking him down, wound him in the linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb which had been cut out of a rock. He rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. NIV 46 So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. HNV 47 Miryam from Magdala and Miryam, the mother of Yosi, saw where he was laid. NIV 47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph saw where he was laid.
