CEB 1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they could go and anoint Jesus' dead body. NRS 1 When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. CEB 2 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they came to the tomb. NRS 2 And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. CEB 3 They were saying to each other, "Who's going to roll the stone away from the entrance for us?" NRS 3 They had been saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?" CEB 4 When they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away. (And it was a very large stone!) NRS 4 When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back. CEB 5 Going into the tomb, they saw a young man in a white robe seated on the right side; and they were startled. NRS 5 As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. CEB 6 But he said to them, "Don't be alarmed! You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised. He isn't here. Look, here's the place where they laid him. NRS 6 But he said to them, "Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. CEB 7 Go, tell his disciples, especially Peter, that he is going ahead of you into Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you." NRS 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you." CEB 8 Overcome with terror and dread, they fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid. NRS 8 So they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. CEB 9 [They promptly reported all of the young man's instructions to those who were with Peter. Afterward, through the work of his disciples, Jesus sent out, from the east to the west, the sacred and undying message of eternal salvation. Amen. ][[After Jesus rose up early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. NRS 9 #[Now after he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. CEB 10 She went and reported to the ones who had been with him, who were mourning and weeping. NRS 10 She went out and told those who had been with him, while they were mourning and weeping. CEB 11 But even after they heard the news, they didn't believe that Jesus was alive and that Mary had seen him. NRS 11 But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it. CEB 12 After that he appeared in a different form to two of them who were walking along in the countryside. NRS 12 After this he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. CEB 13 When they returned, they reported it to the others, but they didn't believe them. NRS 13 And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them. CEB 14 Finally he appeared to the eleven while they were eating. Jesus criticized their unbelief and stubbornness because they didn't believe those who saw him after he was raised up. NRS 14 Later he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were sitting at the table; and he upbraided them for their lack of faith and stubbornness, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. CEB 15 He said to them, "Go into the whole world and proclaim the good news to every creature. NRS 15 And he said to them, "Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation. CEB 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever doesn't believe will be condemned. NRS 16 The one who believes and is baptized will be saved; but the one who does not believe will be condemned. CEB 17 These signs will be associated with those who believe: they will throw out demons in my name. They will speak in new languages. NRS 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: by using my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; CEB 18 They will pick up snakes with their hands. If they drink anything poisonous, it will not hurt them. They will place their hands on the sick, and they will get well." NRS 18 they will pick up snakes in their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover." CEB 19 After the Lord Jesus spoke to them, he was lifted up into heaven and sat down on the right side of God. NRS 19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. CEB 20 But they went out and proclaimed the message everywhere. The Lord worked with them, confirming the word by the signs associated with them.]] NRS 20 And they went out and proclaimed the good news everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that accompanied it. #]
