SBLGNT 1 Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς πάλιν εἶπεν ἐν παραβολαῖς αὐτοῖς ⸃ λέγων · NIV 1 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: SBLGNT 2 Ὡμοιώθη ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν ἀνθρώπῳ βασιλεῖ, ὅστις ἐποίησεν γάμους τῷ υἱῷ αὐτοῦ. NIV 2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. SBLGNT 3 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ καλέσαι τοὺς κεκλημένους εἰς τοὺς γάμους, καὶ οὐκ ἤθελον ἐλθεῖν. NIV 3 He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come. SBLGNT 4 πάλιν ἀπέστειλεν ἄλλους δούλους λέγων · Εἴπατε τοῖς κεκλημένοις · Ἰδοὺ τὸ ἄριστόν μου ἡτοίμακα, οἱ ταῦροί μου καὶ τὰ σιτιστὰ τεθυμένα, καὶ πάντα ἕτοιμα · δεῦτε εἰς τοὺς γάμους. NIV 4 “Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’ SBLGNT 5 οἱ δὲ ἀμελήσαντες ἀπῆλθον, ὃς μὲν εἰς τὸν ἴδιον ἀγρόν, ὃς δὲ ἐπὶ τὴν ἐμπορίαν αὐτοῦ · NIV 5 “But they paid no attention and went off—one to his field, another to his business. SBLGNT 6 οἱ δὲ λοιποὶ κρατήσαντες τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ ὕβρισαν καὶ ἀπέκτειναν. NIV 6 The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them. SBLGNT 7 ὁ δὲ βασιλεὺς ⸃ ὠργίσθη, καὶ πέμψας τὰ στρατεύματα αὐτοῦ ἀπώλεσεν τοὺς φονεῖς ἐκείνους καὶ τὴν πόλιν αὐτῶν ἐνέπρησεν. NIV 7 The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. SBLGNT 8 τότε λέγει τοῖς δούλοις αὐτοῦ · Ὁ μὲν γάμος ἕτοιμός ἐστιν, οἱ δὲ κεκλημένοι οὐκ ἦσαν ἄξιοι · NIV 8 “Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. SBLGNT 9 πορεύεσθε οὖν ἐπὶ τὰς διεξόδους τῶν ὁδῶν, καὶ ὅσους ἐὰν εὕρητε καλέσατε εἰς τοὺς γάμους. NIV 9 So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’ SBLGNT 10 καὶ ἐξελθόντες οἱ δοῦλοι ἐκεῖνοι εἰς τὰς ὁδοὺς συνήγαγον πάντας οὓς εὗρον, πονηρούς τε καὶ ἀγαθούς · καὶ ἐπλήσθη ὁ γάμος ἀνακειμένων. NIV 10 So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests. SBLGNT 11 εἰσελθὼν δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς θεάσασθαι τοὺς ἀνακειμένους εἶδεν ἐκεῖ ἄνθρωπον οὐκ ἐνδεδυμένον ἔνδυμα γάμου · NIV 11 “But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. SBLGNT 12 καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ · Ἑταῖρε, πῶς εἰσῆλθες ὧδε μὴ ἔχων ἔνδυμα γάμου; ὁ δὲ ἐφιμώθη. NIV 12 He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless. SBLGNT 13 τότε ὁ βασιλεὺς εἶπεν ⸃ τοῖς διακόνοις · Δήσαντες αὐτοῦ πόδας καὶ χεῖρας ἐκβάλετε αὐτὸν ⸃ εἰς τὸ σκότος τὸ ἐξώτερον · ἐκεῖ ἔσται ὁ κλαυθμὸς καὶ ὁ βρυγμὸς τῶν ὀδόντων. NIV 13 “Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ SBLGNT 14 πολλοὶ γάρ εἰσιν κλητοὶ ὀλίγοι δὲ ἐκλεκτοί. NIV 14 “For many are invited, but few are chosen.” SBLGNT 15 Τότε πορευθέντες οἱ Φαρισαῖοι συμβούλιον ἔλαβον ὅπως αὐτὸν παγιδεύσωσιν ἐν λόγῳ. NIV 15 Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. SBLGNT 16 καὶ ἀποστέλλουσιν αὐτῷ τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτῶν μετὰ τῶν Ἡρῳδιανῶν λέγοντες · Διδάσκαλε, οἴδαμεν ὅτι ἀληθὴς εἶ καὶ τὴν ὁδὸν τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν ἀληθείᾳ διδάσκεις, καὶ οὐ μέλει σοι περὶ οὐδενός, οὐ γὰρ βλέπεις εἰς πρόσωπον ἀνθρώπων · NIV 16 They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are. SBLGNT 17 εἰπὸν οὖν ἡμῖν τί σοι δοκεῖ · ἔξεστιν δοῦναι κῆνσον Καίσαρι ἢ οὔ; NIV 17 Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not?” SBLGNT 18 γνοὺς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς τὴν πονηρίαν αὐτῶν εἶπεν · Τί με πειράζετε, ὑποκριταί; NIV 18 But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, “You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? SBLGNT 19 ἐπιδείξατέ μοι τὸ νόμισμα τοῦ κήνσου. οἱ δὲ προσήνεγκαν αὐτῷ δηνάριον. NIV 19 Show me the coin used for paying the tax.” They brought him a denarius, SBLGNT 20 καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς · Τίνος ἡ εἰκὼν αὕτη καὶ ἡ ἐπιγραφή; NIV 20 and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?” SBLGNT 21 λέγουσιν αὐτῷ · Καίσαρος. τότε λέγει αὐτοῖς · Ἀπόδοτε οὖν τὰ Καίσαρος Καίσαρι καὶ τὰ τοῦ θεοῦ τῷ θεῷ. NIV 21 “Caesar’s,” they replied. Then he said to them, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” SBLGNT 22 καὶ ἀκούσαντες ἐθαύμασαν, καὶ ἀφέντες αὐτὸν ἀπῆλθαν. NIV 22 When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away. SBLGNT 23 Ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ προσῆλθον αὐτῷ Σαδδουκαῖοι, λέγοντες μὴ εἶναι ἀνάστασιν, καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν NIV 23 That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. SBLGNT 24 λέγοντες · Διδάσκαλε, Μωϋσῆς εἶπεν · Ἐάν τις ἀποθάνῃ μὴ ἔχων τέκνα, ἐπιγαμβρεύσει ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀναστήσει σπέρμα τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ. NIV 24 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for him. SBLGNT 25 ἦσαν δὲ παρ’ ἡμῖν ἑπτὰ ἀδελφοί · καὶ ὁ πρῶτος γήμας ἐτελεύτησεν, καὶ μὴ ἔχων σπέρμα ἀφῆκεν τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ · NIV 25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother. SBLGNT 26 ὁμοίως καὶ ὁ δεύτερος καὶ ὁ τρίτος, ἕως τῶν ἑπτά · NIV 26 The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh. SBLGNT 27 ὕστερον δὲ πάντων ἀπέθανεν ἡ γυνή. NIV 27 Finally, the woman died. SBLGNT 28 ἐν τῇ ἀναστάσει οὖν ⸃ τίνος τῶν ἑπτὰ ἔσται γυνή; πάντες γὰρ ἔσχον αὐτήν. NIV 28 Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?” SBLGNT 29 Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς · Πλανᾶσθε μὴ εἰδότες τὰς γραφὰς μηδὲ τὴν δύναμιν τοῦ θεοῦ · NIV 29 Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. SBLGNT 30 ἐν γὰρ τῇ ἀναστάσει οὔτε γαμοῦσιν οὔτε γαμίζονται, ἀλλ’ ὡς ἄγγελοι θεοῦ ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ εἰσιν · NIV 30 At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. SBLGNT 31 περὶ δὲ τῆς ἀναστάσεως τῶν νεκρῶν οὐκ ἀνέγνωτε τὸ ῥηθὲν ὑμῖν ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ λέγοντος · NIV 31 But about the resurrection of the dead—have you not read what God said to you, SBLGNT 32 Ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ θεὸς Ἀβραὰμ καὶ ὁ θεὸς Ἰσαὰκ καὶ ὁ θεὸς Ἰακώβ; οὐκ ἔστιν ὁ θεὸς ⸃ νεκρῶν ἀλλὰ ζώντων. NIV 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.” SBLGNT 33 καὶ ἀκούσαντες οἱ ὄχλοι ἐξεπλήσσοντο ἐπὶ τῇ διδαχῇ αὐτοῦ. NIV 33 When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching. SBLGNT 34 Οἱ δὲ Φαρισαῖοι ἀκούσαντες ὅτι ἐφίμωσεν τοὺς Σαδδουκαίους συνήχθησαν ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτό. NIV 34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. SBLGNT 35 καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν εἷς ἐξ αὐτῶν νομικὸς πειράζων αὐτόν · NIV 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: SBLGNT 36 Διδάσκαλε, ποία ἐντολὴ μεγάλη ἐν τῷ νόμῳ; NIV 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” SBLGNT 37 ὁ δὲ ἔφη αὐτῷ · Ἀγαπήσεις κύριον τὸν θεόν σου ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ καρδίᾳ σου καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ ψυχῇ σου καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ διανοίᾳ σου · NIV 37 Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ SBLGNT 38 αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ μεγάλη καὶ πρώτη ⸃ ἐντολή. NIV 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. SBLGNT 39 Δευτέρα δὲ ὁμοία αὐτῇ · Ἀγαπήσεις τὸν πλησίον σου ὡς σεαυτόν. NIV 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ SBLGNT 40 ἐν ταύταις ταῖς δυσὶν ἐντολαῖς ὅλος ὁ νόμος κρέμαται καὶ οἱ προφῆται. NIV 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” SBLGNT 41 Συνηγμένων δὲ τῶν Φαρισαίων ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτοὺς ὁ Ἰησοῦς NIV 41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, SBLGNT 42 λέγων · Τί ὑμῖν δοκεῖ περὶ τοῦ χριστοῦ; τίνος υἱός ἐστιν; λέγουσιν αὐτῷ · Τοῦ Δαυίδ. NIV 42 “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?”“The son of David,” they replied. SBLGNT 43 λέγει αὐτοῖς · Πῶς οὖν Δαυὶδ ἐν πνεύματι καλεῖ αὐτὸν κύριον ⸃ λέγων · NIV 43 He said to them, “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’? For he says, SBLGNT 44 Εἶπεν κύριος τῷ κυρίῳ μου · Κάθου ἐκ δεξιῶν μου ἕως ἂν θῶ τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ὑποκάτω τῶν ποδῶν σου; NIV 44 “ ‘The Lord said to my Lord:“Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.” ’ SBLGNT 45 εἰ οὖν Δαυὶδ καλεῖ αὐτὸν κύριον, πῶς υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἐστιν; NIV 45 If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?” SBLGNT 46 καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐδύνατο ἀποκριθῆναι αὐτῷ ⸃ λόγον, οὐδὲ ἐτόλμησέν τις ἀπ’ ἐκείνης τῆς ἡμέρας ἐπερωτῆσαι αὐτὸν οὐκέτι. NIV 46 No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions.
