Matthew 25

CEB 1 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten young bridesmaids who took their lamps and went out to meet the groom. NRS 1 "Then the kingdom of heaven will be like this. Ten bridesmaids took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. CEB 2 Now five of them were wise, and the other five were foolish. NRS 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. CEB 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but didn't bring oil for them. NRS 3 When the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; CEB 4 But the wise ones took their lamps and also brought containers of oil. NRS 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. CEB 5 “When the groom was late in coming, they all became drowsy and went to sleep. NRS 5 As the bridegroom was delayed, all of them became drowsy and slept. CEB 6 But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Look, the groom! Come out to meet him.' NRS 6 But at midnight there was a shout, "Look! Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.' CEB 7 “Then all those bridesmaids got up and prepared their lamps. NRS 7 Then all those bridesmaids got up and trimmed their lamps. CEB 8 But the foolish bridesmaids said to the wise ones, ‘Give us some of your oil, because our lamps have gone out.' NRS 8 The foolish said to the wise, "Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' CEB 9 “But the wise bridesmaids replied, ‘No, because if we share with you, there won't be enough for our lamps and yours. We have a better idea. You go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.' NRS 9 But the wise replied, "No! there will not be enough for you and for us; you had better go to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.' CEB 10 But while they were gone to buy oil, the groom came. Those who were ready went with him into the wedding. Then the door was shut. NRS 10 And while they went to buy it, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went with him into the wedding banquet; and the door was shut. CEB 11 “Later the other bridesmaids came and said, ‘Lord, lord, open the door for us.' NRS 11 Later the other bridesmaids came also, saying, "Lord, lord, open to us.' CEB 12 “But he replied, ‘I tell you the truth, I don't know you.' NRS 12 But he replied, "Truly I tell you, I do not know you.' CEB 13 “Therefore, keep alert, because you don't know the day or the hour. NRS 13 Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour. CEB 14 “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who was leaving on a trip. He called his servants and handed his possessions over to them. NRS 14 "For it is as if a man, going on a journey, summoned his slaves and entrusted his property to them; CEB 15 To one he gave five valuable coins, and to another he gave two, and to another he gave one. He gave to each servant according to that servant's ability. Then he left on his journey. NRS 15 to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. CEB 16 “After the man left, the servant who had five valuable coins took them and went to work doing business with them. He gained five more. NRS 16 The one who had received the five talents went off at once and traded with them, and made five more talents. CEB 17 In the same way, the one who had two valuable coins gained two more. NRS 17 In the same way, the one who had the two talents made two more talents. CEB 18 But the servant who had received the one valuable coin dug a hole in the ground and buried his master's money. NRS 18 But the one who had received the one talent went off and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money. CEB 19 “Now after a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. NRS 19 After a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them. CEB 20 The one who had received five valuable coins came forward with five additional coins. He said, ‘Master, you gave me five valuable coins. Look, I've gained five more.' NRS 20 Then the one who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five more talents, saying, "Master, you handed over to me five talents; see, I have made five more talents.' CEB 21 “His master replied, ‘Excellent! You are a good and faithful servant! You've been faithful over a little. I'll put you in charge of much. Come, celebrate with me.' NRS 21 His master said to him, "Well done, good and trustworthy slave; you have been trustworthy in a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.' CEB 22 “The second servant also came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two valuable coins. Look, I've gained two more.' NRS 22 And the one with the two talents also came forward, saying, "Master, you handed over to me two talents; see, I have made two more talents.' CEB 23 “His master replied, ‘Well done! You are a good and faithful servant. You've been faithful over a little. I'll put you in charge of much. Come, celebrate with me.' NRS 23 His master said to him, "Well done, good and trustworthy slave; you have been trustworthy in a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.' CEB 24 “Now the one who had received one valuable coin came and said, ‘Master, I knew that you are a hard man. You harvest grain where you haven't sown. You gather crops where you haven't spread seed. NRS 24 Then the one who had received the one talent also came forward, saying, "Master, I knew that you were a harsh man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter seed; CEB 25 So I was afraid. And I hid my valuable coin in the ground. Here, you have what's yours.' NRS 25 so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here you have what is yours.' CEB 26 “His master replied, ‘You evil and lazy servant! You knew that I harvest grain where I haven't sown and that I gather crops where I haven't spread seed? NRS 26 But his master replied, "You wicked and lazy slave! You knew, did you, that I reap where I did not sow, and gather where I did not scatter? CEB 27 In that case, you should have turned my money over to the bankers so that when I returned, you could give me what belonged to me with interest. NRS 27 Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have received what was my own with interest. CEB 28 Therefore, take from him the valuable coin and give it to the one who has ten coins. NRS 28 So take the talent from him, and give it to the one with the ten talents. CEB 29 Those who have much will receive more, and they will have more than they need. But as for those who don't have much, even the little bit they have will be taken away from them. NRS 29 For to all those who have, more will be given, and they will have an abundance; but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away. CEB 30 Now take the worthless servant and throw him outside into the darkness.' “People there will be weeping and grinding their teeth. NRS 30 As for this worthless slave, throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' CEB 31 “Now when the Human One comes in his majesty and all his angels are with him, he will sit on his majestic throne. NRS 31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. CEB 32 All the nations will be gathered in front of him. He will separate them from each other, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. NRS 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, CEB 33 He will put the sheep on his right side. But the goats he will put on his left. NRS 33 and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. CEB 34 “Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who will receive good things from my Father. Inherit the kingdom that was prepared for you before the world began. NRS 34 Then the king will say to those at his right hand, "Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; CEB 35 I was hungry and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me. NRS 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, CEB 36 I was naked and you gave me clothes to wear. I was sick and you took care of me. I was in prison and you visited me.' NRS 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.' CEB 37 “Then those who are righteous will reply to him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink? NRS 37 Then the righteous will answer him, "Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? CEB 38 When did we see you as a stranger and welcome you, or naked and give you clothes to wear? NRS 38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? CEB 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?' NRS 39 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?' CEB 40 “Then the king will reply to them, ‘I assure you that when you have done it for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you have done it for me.' NRS 40 And the king will answer them, "Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.' CEB 41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Get away from me, you who will receive terrible things. Go into the unending fire that has been prepared for the devil and his angels. NRS 41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, "You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; CEB 42 I was hungry and you didn't give me food to eat. I was thirsty and you didn't give me anything to drink. NRS 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, CEB 43 I was a stranger and you didn't welcome me. I was naked and you didn't give me clothes to wear. I was sick and in prison, and you didn't visit me.' NRS 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' CEB 44 "Then they will reply, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and didn't do anything to help you?' NRS 44 Then they also will answer, "Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?' CEB 45 Then he will answer, ‘I assure you that when you haven't done it for one of the least of these, you haven't done it for me.' NRS 45 Then he will answer them, "Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.' CEB 46 And they will go away into eternal punishment. But the righteous ones will go into eternal life." NRS 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
