Matthew 6

NRS 1 "Beware of practicing your piety before others in order to be seen by them; for then you have no reward from your Father in heaven. NIV 1 “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. NRS 2 "So whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. NIV 2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. NRS 3 But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, NIV 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, NRS 4 so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. NIV 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. NRS 5 "And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. NIV 5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. NRS 6 But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. NIV 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. NRS 7 "When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. NIV 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. NRS 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. NIV 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. NRS 9 "Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. NIV 9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, NRS 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. NIV 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. NRS 11 Give us this day our daily bread. NIV 11 Give us today our daily bread. NRS 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. NIV 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. NRS 13 And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one. NIV 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ NRS 14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; NIV 14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. NRS 15 but if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. NIV 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. NRS 16 "And whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. NIV 16 “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. NRS 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, NIV 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, NRS 18 so that your fasting may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. NIV 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. NRS 19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; NIV 19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. NRS 20 but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. NIV 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. NRS 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. NIV 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. NRS 22 "The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light; NIV 22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. NRS 23 but if your eye is unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! NIV 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! NRS 24 "No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. NIV 24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. NRS 25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? NIV 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? NRS 26 Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? NIV 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? NRS 27 And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? NIV 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? NRS 28 And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, NIV 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. NRS 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. NIV 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. NRS 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? NIV 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? NRS 31 Therefore do not worry, saying, "What will we eat?' or "What will we drink?' or "What will we wear?' NIV 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ NRS 32 For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. NIV 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. NRS 33 But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. NIV 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. NRS 34 "So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today's trouble is enough for today. NIV 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
