Numbers 12

CEB 1 When they were in Hazeroth, Miriam and Aaron criticized Moses on account of the Cushite woman whom he had married—for he had married a Cushite woman. NIV 1 Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite. CEB 2 They said, "Has the LORD spoken only through Moses? Hasn't he also spoken through us?" The LORD heard it. NIV 2 “Has the LORD spoken only through Moses?” they asked. “Hasn’t he also spoken through us?” And the LORD heard this. CEB 3 Now the man Moses was humble, more so than anyone on earth. NIV 3 (Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.) CEB 4 Immediately, the LORD said to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, "You three go out to the meeting tent." So the three of them went out. NIV 4 At once the LORD said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, “Come out to the tent of meeting, all three of you.” So the three of them went out. CEB 5 Then the LORD descended in a column of cloud, stood at the entrance of the tent, and called to Aaron and Miriam. The two of them came forward. NIV 5 Then the LORD came down in a pillar of cloud; he stood at the entrance to the tent and summoned Aaron and Miriam. When the two of them stepped forward, CEB 6 He said, "Listen to my words: If there is a prophet of the LORD among you, I make myself known to him in visions. I speak to him in dreams. NIV 6 he said, “Listen to my words: “When there is a prophet among you, I, the LORD, reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams. CEB 7 But not with my servant Moses. He has proved to be reliable with all my household. NIV 7 But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house. CEB 8 I speak with him face-to-face, visibly, not in riddles. He sees the LORD's form. So why aren't you afraid to criticize my servant Moses?" NIV 8 With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?” CEB 9 The LORD's anger blazed against them, and they went back. NIV 9 The anger of the LORD burned against them, and he left them. CEB 10 When the cloud went away from over the tent, Miriam suddenly developed a skin disease flaky like snow. Aaron turned toward Miriam and saw her skin disease. NIV 10 When the cloud lifted from above the tent, Miriam’s skin was leprous —it became as white as snow. Aaron turned toward her and saw that she had a defiling skin disease, CEB 11 Then Aaron said to Moses, "Oh, my master, please don't punish us for the sin that we foolishly committed. NIV 11 and he said to Moses, “Please, my lord, I ask you not to hold against us the sin we have so foolishly committed. CEB 12 Please don't let her be like the stillborn, whose flesh is half eaten as it comes out of the mother's womb." NIV 12 Do not let her be like a stillborn infant coming from its mother’s womb with its flesh half eaten away.” CEB 13 So Moses cried to the LORD, "God, please heal her!" NIV 13 So Moses cried out to the LORD, “Please, God, heal her!” CEB 14 The LORD said to Moses, "If her father had spit in her face, would she not be shamed for seven days? Let her be shut out of the camp for seven days, and afterward she will be brought back." NIV 14 The LORD replied to Moses, “If her father had spit in her face, would she not have been in disgrace for seven days? Confine her outside the camp for seven days; after that she can be brought back.” CEB 15 So they shut Miriam out of the camp seven days. And the people didn't march until Miriam was brought back. NIV 15 So Miriam was confined outside the camp for seven days, and the people did not move on till she was brought back. CEB 16 Afterward the people marched from Hazeroth, and they camped in the Paran desert. NIV 16 After that, the people left Hazeroth and encamped in the Desert of Paran.
