Philippians 2

GW 1 So then, as Christians, do you have any encouragement? Do you have any comfort from love? Do you have any spiritual relationships? Do you have any sympathy and compassion? NIV 1 Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, GW 2 Then fill me with joy by having the same attitude and the same love, living in harmony, and keeping one purpose in mind. NIV 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. GW 3 Don't act out of selfish ambition or be conceited. Instead, humbly think of others as being better than yourselves. NIV 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, GW 4 Don't be concerned only about your own interests, but also be concerned about the interests of others. NIV 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. GW 5 Have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. NIV 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: GW 6 Although he was in the form of God and equal with God, he did not take advantage of this equality. NIV 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; GW 7 Instead, he emptied himself by taking on the form of a servant, by becoming like other humans, by having a human appearance. NIV 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. GW 8 He humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, death on a cross. NIV 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! GW 9 This is why God has given him an exceptional honor-- the name honored above all other names-- NIV 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, GW 10 so that at the name of Jesus everyone in heaven, on earth, and in the world below will kneel NIV 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, GW 11 and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. NIV 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. GW 12 My dear friends, you have always obeyed, not only when I was with you but even more now that I'm absent. In the same way continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling. NIV 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, GW 13 It is God who produces in you the desires and actions that please him. NIV 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. GW 14 Do everything without complaining or arguing. NIV 14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing, GW 15 Then you will be blameless and innocent. You will be God's children without any faults among people who are crooked and corrupt. You will shine like stars among them in the world NIV 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky GW 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. Then I can brag on the day of Christ that my effort was not wasted and that my work produced results. NIV 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. GW 17 My life is being poured out as a part of the sacrifice and service [I offer to God] for your faith. Yet, I am filled with joy, and I share that joy with all of you. NIV 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. GW 18 For this same reason you also should be filled with joy and share that joy with me. NIV 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me. GW 19 I hope that the Lord Jesus will allow me to send Timothy to you soon so that I can receive some encouraging news about you. NIV 19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. GW 20 I don't have anyone else like Timothy. He takes a genuine interest in your welfare. NIV 20 I have no one else like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare. GW 21 Everyone else looks after his own interests, not after those of Jesus Christ. NIV 21 For everyone looks out for their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. GW 22 But you know what kind of person Timothy proved to be. Like a father and son we worked hard together to spread the Good News. NIV 22 But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel. GW 23 I hope to send him as soon as I see how things are going to turn out for me. NIV 23 I hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me. GW 24 But the Lord gives me confidence that I will come [to visit you] soon. NIV 24 And I am confident in the Lord that I myself will come soon. GW 25 I feel that I must send Epaphroditus--my brother, coworker, and fellow soldier--back to you. You sent him as your personal representative to help me in my need. NIV 25 But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, co-worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs. GW 26 He has been longing to see all of you and is troubled because you heard that he was sick. NIV 26 For he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill. GW 27 Indeed, he was so sick that he almost died. But God had mercy not only on him but also on me and kept me from having one sorrow on top of another. NIV 27 Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow. GW 28 So I'm especially eager to send him to you. In this way you will have the joy of seeing him again and I will feel relieved. NIV 28 Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety. GW 29 Give him a joyful Christian welcome. Make sure you honor people like Epaphroditus highly. NIV 29 So then, welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor people like him, GW 30 He risked his life and almost died for the work of Christ in order to make up for the help you couldn't give me. NIV 30 because he almost died for the work of Christ. He risked his life to make up for the help you yourselves could not give me.
