NRSA 8 Hear, my child, your father's instruction, and do not reject your mother's teaching; NIV 8 Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. NRSA 9 for they are a fair garland for your head, and pendants for your neck. NIV 9 They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. NRSA 10 My child, if sinners entice you, do not consent. NIV 10 My son, if sinful men entice you, do not give in to them. NRSA 11 If they say, "Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood; let us wantonly ambush the innocent; NIV 11 If they say, “Come along with us; let’s lie in wait for innocent blood, let’s ambush some harmless soul; NRSA 12 like Sheol let us swallow them alive and whole, like those who go down to the Pit. NIV 12 let’s swallow them alive, like the grave, and whole, like those who go down to the pit; NRSA 13 We shall find all kinds of costly things; we shall fill our houses with booty. NIV 16 for their feet rush into evil, they are swift to shed blood. NRSA 17 For in vain is the net baited while the bird is looking on; NIV 17 How useless to spread a net where every bird can see it! NRSA 18 yet they lie in wait—to kill themselves! and set an ambush—for their own lives! NIV 18 These men lie in wait for their own blood; they ambush only themselves! How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge? NIV 22 “How long will you who are simple love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge? NRSA 23 Give heed to my reproof; I will pour out my thoughts to you; I will make my words known to you. NIV 23 Repent at my rebuke! Then I will pour out my thoughts to you, I will make known to you my teachings. NRSA 24 Because I have called and you refused, have stretched out my hand and no one heeded, NIV 24 But since you refuse to listen when I call and no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand, NRSA 25 and because you have ignored all my counsel and would have none of my reproof, NIV 25 since you disregard all my advice and do not accept my rebuke, NRSA 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when panic strikes you, NIV 26 I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you; I will mock when calamity overtakes you— NRSA 27 when panic strikes you like a storm, and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. NIV 27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you. NRSA 28 Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently, but will not find me. NIV 28 “Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me, NRSA 29 Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord, NIV 29 since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the LORD. NRSA 30 would have none of my counsel, and despised all my reproof, NIV 30 Since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke, NRSA 31 therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way and be sated with their own devices. NIV 31 they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes. NRSA 32 For waywardness kills the simple, and the complacency of fools destroys them; NIV 32 For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; NRSA 33 but those who listen to me will be secure and will live at ease, without dread of disaster."
