Proverbs 2

NRSA 1 My child, if you accept my words and treasure up my commandments within you, NIV 1 My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, NRSA 2 making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; NIV 2 turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding— NRSA 3 if you indeed cry out for insight, and raise your voice for understanding; NIV 3 indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, NRSA 4 if you seek it like silver, and search for it as for hidden treasures— NIV 4 and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, NRSA 5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. NIV 5 then you will understand the fear of the LORDand find the knowledge of God. NRSA 6 For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; NIV 6 For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. NRSA 7 he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk blamelessly, NIV 7 He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, NRSA 8 guarding the paths of justice and preserving the way of his faithful ones. NIV 8 for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. NRSA 9 Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; NIV 9 Then you will understand what is right and just and fair—every good path. NRSA 10 for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; NIV 10 For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. NRSA 11 prudence will watch over you; and understanding will guard you. NIV 11 Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you. NRSA 12 It will save you from the way of evil, from those who speak perversely, NIV 12 Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse, NRSA 13 who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, NIV 13 who have left the straight paths to walk in dark ways, NRSA 14 who rejoice in doing evil and delight in the perverseness of evil; NIV 14 who delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil, NRSA 15 those whose paths are crooked, and who are devious in their ways. NIV 15 whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways. NRSA 16 You will be saved from the loose woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words, NIV 16 Wisdom will save you also from the adulterous woman, from the wayward woman with her seductive words, NRSA 17 who forsakes the partner of her youth and forgets her sacred covenant; NIV 17 who has left the partner of her youth and ignored the covenant she made before God. NRSA 18 for her way leads down to death, and her paths to the shades; NIV 18 Surely her house leads down to death and her paths to the spirits of the dead. NRSA 19 those who go to her never come back, nor do they regain the paths of life. NIV 19 None who go to her return or attain the paths of life. NRSA 20 Therefore walk in the way of the good, and keep to the paths of the just. NIV 20 Thus you will walk in the ways of the good and keep to the paths of the righteous. NRSA 21 For the upright will abide in the land, and the innocent will remain in it; NIV 21 For the upright will live in the land, and the blameless will remain in it; NRSA 22 but the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the treacherous will be rooted out of it.
