CEB 1 LORD, remember David— all the ways he suffered NIV 1 LORD, remember David and all his self-denial. CEB 2 and how he swore to the LORD, how he promised the strong one of Jacob: NIV 2 He swore an oath to the LORD, he made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob: CEB 3 "I won't enter my house, won't get into my bed. NIV 3 “I will not enter my house or go to my bed, CEB 4 I won't let my eyes close, won't let my eyelids sleep, NIV 4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, CEB 5 until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the strong one of Jacob." NIV 5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.” CEB 6 Yes, we heard about it in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar. NIV 6 We heard it in Ephrathah, we came upon it in the fields of Jaar: CEB 7 Let's enter God's dwelling place; let's worship at the place God rests his feet! NIV 7 “Let us go to his dwelling place, let us worship at his footstool, saying, CEB 8 Get up, LORD, go to your residence— you and your powerful covenant chest! NIV 8 ‘Arise, LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. CEB 9 Let your priests be dressed in righteousness; let your faithful shout out with joy! NIV 9 May your priests be clothed with your righteousness; may your faithful people sing for joy.’ ” CEB 10 And for the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed one. CEB 11 The LORD swore to David a true promise that God won't take back: "I will put one of your own children on your throne. NIV 11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne. CEB 12 And if your children keep my covenant and the laws that I will teach them, then their children too will rule on your throne forever." NIV 12 If your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever.” CEB 13 Because the LORD chose Zion; he wanted it for his home. NIV 13 For the LORD has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling, saying, CEB 14 "This is my residence forever. I will live here because I wanted it for myself. NIV 14 “This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it. CEB 15 I will most certainly bless its food supply; I will fill its needy full of food! NIV 15 I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor I will satisfy with food. CEB 16 I will dress its priests in salvation, and its faithful will shout out loud with joy! NIV 16 I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful people will ever sing for joy. CEB 17 It is there that I will make David's strength thrive. I will prepare a lamp for my anointed one there. NIV 17 “Here I will make a horn grow for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one. CEB 18 I will dress his enemies in shame, but the crown he wears will shine." NIV 18 I will clothe his enemies with shame, but his head will be adorned with a radiant crown.”
