Psalm 17

NCV 1 Lord, hear me begging for fairness; listen to my cry for help. Pay attention to my prayer, because I speak the truth. NIV 1 Hear me, LORD, my plea is just; listen to my cry. Hear my prayer— it does not rise from deceitful lips. NCV 2 You will judge that I am right; your eyes can see what is true. NIV 2 Let my vindication come from you; may your eyes see what is right. NCV 3 You have examined my heart; you have tested me all night. You questioned me without finding anything wrong; I have not sinned with my mouth. NIV 3 Though you probe my heart, though you examine me at night and test me, you will find that I have planned no evil; my mouth has not transgressed. NCV 4 I have obeyed your commands, so I have not done what evil people do. NIV 4 Though people tried to bribe me, I have kept myself from the ways of the violent through what your lips have commanded. NCV 5 I have done what you told me; I have not failed. NIV 5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not stumbled. NCV 6 I call to you, God, and you answer me. Listen to me now, and hear what I say. NIV 6 I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer. NCV 7 Your love is wonderful. By your power you save those who trust you from their enemies. NIV 7 Show me the wonders of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes. NCV 8 Protect me as you would protect your own eye. Hide me under the shadow of your wings. NIV 8 Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings NCV 9 Keep me from the wicked who attack me, from my enemies who surround me. NIV 9 from the wicked who are out to destroy me, from my mortal enemies who surround me. NCV 10 They are selfish and brag about themselves. NIV 10 They close up their callous hearts, and their mouths speak with arrogance. NCV 11 They have chased me until they have surrounded me. They plan to throw me to the ground. NIV 11 They have tracked me down, they now surround me, with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground. NCV 12 They are like lions ready to kill; like lions, they sit in hiding. NIV 12 They are like a lion hungry for prey, like a fierce lion crouching in cover. NCV 13 Lord, rise up, face the enemy, and throw them down. Save me from the wicked with your sword. NIV 13 Rise up, LORD, confront them, bring them down; with your sword rescue me from the wicked. NCV 14 Lord, save me by your power from those whose reward is in this life. They have plenty of food. They have many sons and leave much money to their children. NIV 14 By your hand save me from such people, LORD, from those of this world whose reward is in this life. May what you have stored up for the wicked fill their bellies; may their children gorge themselves on it, and may there be leftovers for their little ones. NCV 15 Because I have lived right, I will see your face. When I wake up, I will see your likeness and be satisfied. For the director of music. By the Lord's servant, David. David sang this song to the Lord when the Lord had saved him from Saul and all his other enemies. NIV 15 As for me, I will be vindicated and will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.
