Psalm 69

NCV 1 God, save me, because the water has risen to my neck. NIV 1 Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. NCV 2 I'm sinking down into the mud, and there is nothing to stand on. I am in deep water, and the flood covers me. NIV 2 I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me. NCV 3 I am tired from calling for help; my throat is sore. My eyes are tired from waiting for God to help me. NIV 3 I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God. NCV 4 There are more people who hate me for no reason than hairs on my head; powerful enemies want to destroy me for no reason. They make me pay back what I did not steal. NIV 4 Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal. NCV 5 God, you know what I have done wrong; I cannot hide my guilt from you. NIV 5 You, God, know my folly; my guilt is not hidden from you. NCV 6 Lord God All-Powerful, do not let those who hope in you be ashamed because of me. God of Israel, do not let your worshipers be disgraced because of me. NIV 6 Lord, the LORD Almighty, may those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me; God of Israel, may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me. NCV 7 For you, I carry this shame, and my face is covered with disgrace. NIV 7 For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face. NCV 8 I am like a stranger to my closest relatives and a foreigner to my mother's children. NIV 8 I am a foreigner to my own family, a stranger to my own mother’s children; NCV 9 My strong love for your Temple completely controls me. When people insult you, it hurts me. NIV 9 for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me. NCV 10 When I cry and go without food, they make fun of me. NIV 10 When I weep and fast, I must endure scorn; NCV 11 When I wear clothes of sadness, they joke about me. NIV 11 when I put on sackcloth, people make sport of me. NCV 12 They make fun of me in public places, and the drunkards make up songs about me. NIV 12 Those who sit at the gate mock me, and I am the song of the drunkards. NCV 13 But I pray to you, Lord, for favor. God, because of your great love, answer me. You are truly able to save. NIV 13 But I pray to you, LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation. NCV 14 Pull me from the mud, and do not let me sink. Save me from those who hate me and from the deep water. NIV 14 Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters. NCV 15 Do not let the flood drown me or the deep water swallow me or the grave close its mouth over me. NIV 15 Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me. NCV 16 Lord, answer me because your love is so good. Because of your great kindness, turn to me. NIV 16 Answer me, LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me. NCV 17 Do not hide from me, your servant. I am in trouble. Hurry to help me! NIV 17 Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble. NCV 18 Come near and save me; rescue me from my enemies. NIV 18 Come near and rescue me; deliver me because of my foes. NCV 19 You see my shame and disgrace. You know all my enemies and what they have said. NIV 19 You know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed; all my enemies are before you. NCV 20 Insults have broken my heart and left me weak. I looked for sympathy, but there was none; I found no one to comfort me. NIV 20 Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none. NCV 21 They put poison in my food and gave me vinegar to drink. NIV 21 They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst. NCV 22 Let their own feasts cause their ruin; let their feasts trap them and pay them back. NIV 22 May the table set before them become a snare; may it become retribution and a trap. NCV 23 Let their eyes be closed so they cannot see and their backs be forever weak from troubles. NIV 23 May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever. NCV 24 Pour your anger out on them; let your anger catch up with them. NIV 24 Pour out your wrath on them; let your fierce anger overtake them. NCV 25 May their place be empty; leave no one to live in their tents. NIV 25 May their place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in their tents. NCV 26 They chase after those you have hurt, and they talk about the pain of those you have wounded. NIV 26 For they persecute those you wound and talk about the pain of those you hurt. NCV 27 Charge them with crime after crime, and do not let them have anything good. NIV 27 Charge them with crime upon crime; do not let them share in your salvation. NCV 28 Wipe their names from the book of life, and do not list them with those who do what is right. NIV 28 May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous. NCV 29 I am sad and hurting. God, save me and protect me. NIV 29 But as for me, afflicted and in pain— may your salvation, God, protect me. NCV 30 I will praise God in a song and will honor him by giving thanks. NIV 30 I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. NCV 31 That will please the Lord more than offering him cattle, more than sacrificing a bull with horns and hoofs. NIV 31 This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hooves. NCV 32 Poor people will see this and be glad. Be encouraged, you who worship God. NIV 32 The poor will see and be glad— you who seek God, may your hearts live! NCV 33 The Lord listens to those in need and does not look down on captives. NIV 33 The LORD hears the needy and does not despise his captive people. NCV 34 Heaven and earth should praise him, the seas and everything in them. NIV 34 Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and all that move in them, NCV 35 God will save Jerusalem and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will live there and own the land. NIV 35 for God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will settle there and possess it; NCV 36 The descendants of his servants will inherit that land, and those who love him will live there. NIV 36 the children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there.
