CEB 1 Theophilus, the first scroll I wrote concerned everything Jesus did and taught from the beginning, NRS 1 In the first book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus did and taught from the beginning CEB 2 right up to the day when he was taken up into heaven. Before he was taken up, working in the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus instructed the apostles he had chosen. NRS 2 until the day when he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. CEB 3 After his suffering, he showed them that he was alive with many convincing proofs. He appeared to them over a period of forty days, speaking to them about God's kingdom. NRS 3 After his suffering he presented himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. CEB 4 While they were eating together, he ordered them not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for what the Father had promised. He said, "This is what you heard from me: NRS 4 While staying with them, he ordered them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of the Father. "This," he said, "is what you have heard from me; CEB 5 John baptized with water, but in only a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." NRS 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." CEB 6 As a result, those who had gathered together asked Jesus, "Lord, are you going to restore the kingdom to Israel now?" NRS 6 So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?" CEB 7 Jesus replied, "It isn't for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has set by his own authority. NRS 7 He replied, "It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. CEB 8 Rather, you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." NRS 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." CEB 9 After Jesus said these things, as they were watching, he was lifted up and a cloud took him out of their sight. NRS 9 When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. CEB 10 While he was going away and as they were staring toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood next to them. NRS 10 While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. CEB 11 They said, "Galileans, why are you standing here, looking toward heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way that you saw him go into heaven." NRS 11 They said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven."
