Acts 20:17-38

RHE 17 And sending from Miletus to Ephesus, he called the ancients of the church. NIV 17 From Miletus, Paul sent to Ephesus for the elders of the church. RHE 18 And when they were come to him and were together, he said to them: You know from the first day that I came into Asia, in what manner I have been with you, for all the time. NIV 18 When they arrived, he said to them: “You know how I lived the whole time I was with you, from the first day I came into the province of Asia. RHE 19 Serving the Lord with all humility and with tears and temptations which befell me by the conspiracies of the Jews: NIV 19 I served the Lord with great humility and with tears and in the midst of severe testing by the plots of my Jewish opponents. RHE 20 How I have kept back nothing that was profitable to you, but have preached it to you, and taught you publicly, and from house to house, NIV 20 You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house. RHE 21 Testifying both to Jews and Gentiles penance towards God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. NIV 21 I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus. RHE 22 And now, behold, being bound in the spirit, I go to Jerusalem: not knowing the things which shall befall me there: NIV 22 “And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. RHE 23 Save that the Holy Ghost in every city witnesseth to me, saying: That bands and afflictions wait for me at Jerusalem. NIV 23 I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. RHE 24 But I fear none of these things, neither do I count my life more precious than myself, so that I may consummate my course and the ministry of the word which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. NIV 24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. RHE 25 And now behold, I know that all you, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more. NIV 25 “Now I know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see me again. RHE 26 Wherefore I take you to witness this day that I am clear from the blood of all men. NIV 26 Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of any of you. RHE 27 For I have not spread to declare unto you all, the counsel of God. NIV 27 For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God. RHE 28 Take heed to yourselves and to the whole flock, wherein the Holy Ghost hath placed you bishops, to rule the Church of God which he hath purchased with his own blood. NIV 28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. RHE 29 I know that after my departure ravening wolves will enter in among you, not sparing the flock. NIV 29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. RHE 30 And of your own selves shall arise men speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. NIV 30 Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. RHE 31 Therefore watch, keeping in memory that for three years I ceased not with tears to admonish every one of you, night and day. NIV 31 So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears. RHE 32 And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, who is able to build up and to give an inheritance among all the sanctified. NIV 32 “Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. RHE 33 I have not coveted any man’s silver, gold or apparel, as NIV 33 I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing. RHE 34 You yourselves know. For such things as were needful for me and them that are with me, these hands have furnished. NIV 34 You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions. RHE 35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring you ought to support the weak and to remember the word of the Lord Jesus, how he said: It is a more blessed thing to give, rather than to receive. NIV 35 In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ” RHE 36 And when he had said these things, kneeling down, he prayed with them all. NIV 36 When Paul had finished speaking, he knelt down with all of them and prayed. RHE 37 And there was much weeping among them all. And falling on the neck of Paul, they kissed him, NIV 37 They all wept as they embraced him and kissed him. RHE 38 Being grieved most of all for the word which he had said, that they should see his face no more. And they brought him on his way to the ship. NIV 38 What grieved them most was his statement that they would never see his face again. Then they accompanied him to the ship.
