The next morning some Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul.
13 Eran más de cuarenta los cómplices en la conspiración.

More than forty men were involved in this plot.
14 Fueron a los sacerdotes principales y a los ancianos y les dijeron: «Nos hemos comprometido mediante un juramento a no comer nada hasta que hayamos matado a Pablo.

They went to the chief priests and the elders and said, “We have taken a solemn oath not to eat anything until we have killed Paul.
15 Así que ustedes y el Concilio Supremo deberían pedirle al comandante que lleve otra vez a Pablo ante el Concilio. Aparenten que quieren examinar su caso más a fondo. Nosotros lo mataremos en el camino».

Now then, you and the Sanhedrin petition the commander to bring him before you on the pretext of wanting more accurate information about his case. We are ready to kill him before he gets here.”
16 Pero el sobrino de Pablo —el hijo de su hermana— se enteró del plan y fue a la fortaleza y se lo contó a Pablo.

But when the son of Paul’s sister heard of this plot, he went into the barracks and told Paul.
17 Pablo mandó llamar a uno de los oficiales romanos<br /> y le dijo: «Lleva a este joven al comandante; tiene algo importante que decirle».

Then Paul called one of the centurions and said, “Take this young man to the commander; he has something to tell him.”
18 Entonces el oficial lo hizo y explicó: «El prisionero Pablo me llamó y me pidió que le trajera a este joven porque tiene algo que decirle».

So he took him to the commander. The centurion said, “Paul, the prisoner, sent for me and asked me to bring this young man to you because he has something to tell you.”
19 El comandante lo tomó de la mano, lo llevó a un lado y le preguntó:<br />—¿Qué es lo que quieres decirme?

The commander took the young man by the hand, drew him aside and asked, “What is it you want to tell me?”
20 El sobrino de Pablo le dijo:<br />—Unos judíos van a pedirle que usted lleve mañana a Pablo ante el Concilio Supremo, fingiendo que quieren obtener más información.

He said: “Some Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul before the Sanhedrin tomorrow on the pretext of wanting more accurate information about him.
21 ¡Pero no lo haga! Hay más de cuarenta hombres escondidos por todo el camino, listos para tenderle una emboscada. Ellos han jurado no comer ni beber nada hasta que lo hayan matado. Ya están listos, solo esperan su consentimiento.

Don’t give in to them, because more than forty of them are waiting in ambush for him. They have taken an oath not to eat or drink until they have killed him. They are ready now, waiting for your consent to their request.”
22 —Que nadie sepa que me has contado esto —le advirtió el comandante al joven.

The commander dismissed the young man with this warning: “Don’t tell anyone that you have reported this to me.”
23 Pablo es enviado a Cesarea<br />Entonces el comandante llamó a dos de sus oficiales y les dio la siguiente orden: «Preparen a doscientos soldados para que vayan a Cesarea esta noche a las nueve. Lleven también doscientos lanceros y setenta hombres a caballo.

Then he called two of his centurions and ordered them, “Get ready a detachment of two hundred soldiers, seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen to go to Caesarea at nine tonight.
24 Denle caballos a Pablo para el viaje y llévenlo a salvo al gobernador Félix».

Provide horses for Paul so that he may be taken safely to Governor Felix.”

He wrote a letter as follows:
26 «De Claudio Lisias. A su excelencia, el gobernador Félix. ¡Saludos!

Claudius Lysias, To His Excellency, Governor Felix: Greetings.
27 »Unos judíos detuvieron a este hombre y estaban a punto de matarlo cuando llegué con mis tropas. Luego me enteré de que él era ciudadano romano, entonces lo trasladé a un lugar seguro.

This man was seized by the Jews and they were about to kill him, but I came with my troops and rescued him, for I had learned that he is a Roman citizen.
28 Después lo llevé al Concilio Supremo judío para tratar de averiguar la razón de las acusaciones en su contra.

I wanted to know why they were accusing him, so I brought him to their Sanhedrin.
29 Pronto descubrí que el cargo tenía que ver con su ley religiosa, nada que merezca prisión o muerte en absoluto;

I found that the accusation had to do with questions about their law, but there was no charge against him that deserved death or imprisonment.
30 pero cuando se me informó de un complot para matarlo, se lo envié a usted de inmediato. Les he dicho a sus acusadores que presenten los cargos ante usted».

When I was informed of a plot to be carried out against the man, I sent him to you at once. I also ordered his accusers to present to you their case against him.
31 Así que, esa noche, tal como se les había ordenado, los soldados llevaron a Pablo tan lejos como Antípatris.

So the soldiers, carrying out their orders, took Paul with them during the night and brought him as far as Antipatris.
32 A la mañana siguiente, ellos regresaron a la fortaleza mientras que las tropas a caballo trasladaron a Pablo hasta Cesarea.

The next day they let the cavalry go on with him, while they returned to the barracks.

When the cavalry arrived in Caesarea, they delivered the letter to the governor and handed Paul over to him.
34 El gobernador la leyó y después le preguntó a Pablo de qué provincia era.<br />—De Cilicia —contestó Pablo.

The governor read the letter and asked what province he was from. Learning that he was from Cilicia,
35 —Yo mismo oiré tu caso cuando lleguen los que te acusan —le dijo el gobernador.<br />Luego el gobernador ordenó que lo pusieran en la prisión del cuartel general de Herodes.

he said, “I will hear your case when your accusers get here.” Then he ordered that Paul be kept under guard in Herod’s palace.
