Acts 2:1-13

NAS 1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. NIV 1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. NAS 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. NIV 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. NAS 3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. NIV 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. NAS 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. NIV 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. NAS 5 Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven. NIV 5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. NAS 6 And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language. NIV 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. NAS 7 They were amazed and astonished, saying, "Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans? NIV 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? NAS 8 "And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born? NIV 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? NAS 9 "Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, NIV 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, NAS 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya around Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, NIV 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome NAS 11 Cretans and Arabs -we hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God." NIV 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” NAS 12 And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, "What does this mean ?" NIV 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?” NAS 13 But others were mocking and saying, "They are full of sweet wine." NIV 13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”
