KJV 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. NIV 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. KJV 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. NIV 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. KJV 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. NIV 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. KJV 5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. NIV 5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. KJV 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. NIV 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. KJV 7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? NIV 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? KJV 8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? NIV 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? KJV 9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, NIV 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, KJV 10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, NIV 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome KJV 11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. NIV 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” KJV 12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? NIV 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”
