Acts 4:8-18

NRSA 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders, NIV 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! NRSA 9 if we are questioned today because of a good deed done to someone who was sick and are asked how this man has been healed, NIV 9 If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, NRSA 10 let it be known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that this man is standing before you in good health by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead. NIV 10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. NRSA 11 This Jesus is "the stone that was rejected by you, the builders; it has become the cornerstone.' NIV 11 Jesus is “ ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ NRSA 12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved." NIV 12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” NRSA 13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John and realized that they were uneducated and ordinary men, they were amazed and recognized them as companions of Jesus. NIV 13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. NRSA 14 When they saw the man who had been cured standing beside them, they had nothing to say in opposition. NIV 14 But since they could see the man who had been healed standing there with them, there was nothing they could say. NRSA 15 So they ordered them to leave the council while they discussed the matter with one another. NIV 15 So they ordered them to withdraw from the Sanhedrin and then conferred together. NRSA 16 They said, "What will we do with them? For it is obvious to all who live in Jerusalem that a notable sign has been done through them; we cannot deny it. NIV 16 “What are we going to do with these men?” they asked. “Everyone living in Jerusalem knows they have performed a notable sign, and we cannot deny it. NRSA 17 But to keep it from spreading further among the people, let us warn them to speak no more to anyone in this name." NIV 17 But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name.” NRSA 18 So they called them and ordered them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. NIV 18 Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.
