Exodus 20:1-17

CEB 1 Then God spoke all these words: NRS 1 Then God spoke all these words: CEB 2 I am the LORD your God who brought you out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. NRS 2 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; CEB 3 You must have no other gods before me. NRS 3 you shall have no other gods before me. CEB 4 Do not make an idol for yourself—no form whatsoever—of anything in the sky above or on the earth below or in the waters under the earth. NRS 4 You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. CEB 5 Do not bow down to them or worship them, because I, the LORD your God, am a passionate God. I punish children for their parents' sins even to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me. NRS 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me, CEB 6 But I am loyal and gracious to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments. NRS 6 but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments. CEB 7 Do not use the LORD your God's name as if it were of no significance; the LORD won't forgive anyone who uses his name that way. NRS 7 You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name. CEB 8 Remember the Sabbath day and treat it as holy. NRS 8 Remember the sabbath day, and keep it holy. CEB 9 Six days you may work and do all your tasks, NRS 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work. CEB 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. Do not do any work on it—not you, your sons or daughters, your male or female servants, your animals, or the immigrant who is living with you. NRS 10 But the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work—you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, your livestock, or the alien resident in your towns. CEB 11 Because the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and everything that is in them in six days, but rested on the seventh day. That is why the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. NRS 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and consecrated it. CEB 12 Honor your father and your mother so that your life will be long on the fertile land that the LORD your God is giving you. NRS 12 Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you. CEB 13 Do not kill. NRS 13 You shall not murder. CEB 14 Do not commit adultery. NRS 14 You shall not commit adultery. CEB 15 Do not steal. NRS 15 You shall not steal. CEB 16 Do not testify falsely against your neighbor. NRS 16 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. CEB 17 Do not desire your neighbor's house. Do not desire and try to take your neighbor's wife, male or female servant, ox, donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbor. NRS 17 You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
