Galatians 5:1-7

MSG 1 Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you. NIV 1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. MSG 2 I am emphatic about this. The moment any one of you submits to circumcision or any other rule-keeping system, at that same moment Christ's hard-won gift of freedom is squandered. NIV 2 Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. MSG 3 I repeat my warning: The person who accepts the ways of circumcision trades all the advantages of the free life in Christ for the obligations of the slave life of the law. NIV 3 Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. MSG 4 I suspect you would never intend this, but this is what happens. When you attempt to live by your own religious plans and projects, you are cut off from Christ, you fall out of grace. NIV 4 You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. MSG 5 Meanwhile we expectantly wait for a satisfying relationship with the Spirit. NIV 5 For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope. MSG 6 For in Christ, neither our most conscientious religion nor disregard of religion amounts to anything. What matters is something far more interior: faith expressed in love. NIV 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. MSG 7 You were running superbly! Who cut in on you, deflecting you from the true course of obedience? NIV 7 You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth?
