Genesis 28:8-18

GW 8 Esau realized that his father Isaac disapproved of Canaanite women. NIV 8 Esau then realized how displeasing the Canaanite women were to his father Isaac; GW 9 So he went to Ishmael and married Mahalath, daughter of Abraham's son Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth, in addition to the wives he had. GW 13 The LORD was standing above it, saying, "I am the LORD, the God of your grandfather Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give the land on which you are lying to you and your descendants. NIV 13 There above it stood the LORD, and he said: “I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. GW 14 Your descendants will be like the dust on the earth. You will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. Through you and through your descendant every family on earth will be blessed. NIV 14 Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. GW 15 Remember, I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go. I will also bring you back to this land because I will not leave you until I do what I've promised you." I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” GW 16 Then Jacob woke up from his sleep and exclaimed, "Certainly, the LORD is in this place, and I didn't know it!" NIV 16 When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” GW 17 Filled with awe, he said, "How awe-inspiring this place is! Certainly, this is the house of God and the gateway to heaven!" NIV 17 He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.” GW 18 Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had put under his head. He set it up as a marker and poured olive oil on top of it. NIV 18 Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it.
