Genesis 32:22-31

CEB 22 Jacob got up during the night, took his two wives, his two women servants, and his eleven sons, and crossed the Jabbok River's shallow water. NRS 22 The same night he got up and took his two wives, his two maids, and his eleven children, and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. CEB 23 He took them and everything that belonged to him, and he helped them cross the river. NRS 23 He took them and sent them across the stream, and likewise everything that he had. CEB 24 But Jacob stayed apart by himself, and a man wrestled with him until dawn broke. NRS 24 Jacob was left alone; and a man wrestled with him until daybreak. CEB 25 When the man saw that he couldn't defeat Jacob, he grabbed Jacob's thigh and tore a muscle in Jacob's thigh as he wrestled with him. NRS 25 When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he struck him on the hip socket; and Jacob's hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. CEB 26 The man said, "Let me go because the dawn is breaking." But Jacob said, "I won't let you go until you bless me." NRS 26 Then he said, "Let me go, for the day is breaking." But Jacob said, "I will not let you go, unless you bless me." CEB 27 He said to Jacob, "What's your name?" and he said, "Jacob." NRS 27 So he said to him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Jacob." CEB 28 Then he said, "Your name won't be Jacob any longer, but Israel, because you struggled with God and with men and won." NRS 28 Then the man said, "You shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with humans, and have prevailed." CEB 29 Jacob also asked and said, "Tell me your name." But he said, "Why do you ask for my name?" and he blessed Jacob there. NRS 29 Then Jacob asked him, "Please tell me your name." But he said, "Why is it that you ask my name?" And there he blessed him. CEB 30 Jacob named the place Peniel,"because I've seen God face-to-face, and my life has been saved." NRS 30 So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, "For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life is preserved." CEB 31 The sun rose as Jacob passed Penuel, limping because of his thigh. NRS 31 The sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel, limping because of his hip.
