1 José interpreta dos sueños<br />Pasado un tiempo, el jefe de los coperos y el jefe de los panaderos del faraón ofendieron a su señor, el rey.

Some time later, the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt offended their master, the king of Egypt.
2 El faraón se enojó con esos dos funcionarios

Pharaoh was angry with his two officials, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker,
3 y los puso en la cárcel donde estaba José, en el palacio del capitán de la guardia.

and put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the same prison where Joseph was confined.
4 Ellos permanecieron en la cárcel durante mucho tiempo, y el capitán de la guardia los asignó a José, quien se ocupaba de ellos.

The captain of the guard assigned them to Joseph, and he attended them. After they had been in custody for some time,

each of the two men—the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were being held in prison—had a dream the same night, and each dream had a meaning of its own.

When Joseph came to them the next morning, he saw that they were dejected.
7 —¿Por qué se ven tan preocupados hoy? —les preguntó.

So he asked Pharaoh’s officials who were in custody with him in his master’s house, “Why do you look so sad today?”
8 —Anoche los dos tuvimos sueños —contestaron ellos—, pero nadie puede decirnos lo que significan.<br />—La interpretación de los sueños es asunto de Dios —respondió José—. Vamos, cuéntenme lo que soñaron.

“We both had dreams,” they answered, “but there is no one to interpret them.” Then Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams.”
9 Entonces el jefe de los coperos fue el primero en contarle su sueño a José.<br />—En mi sueño —dijo él—, vi una vid delante de mí.

So the chief cupbearer told Joseph his dream. He said to him, “In my dream I saw a vine in front of me,
10 La vid tenía tres ramas, las cuales comenzaron a brotar y a florecer y, en poco tiempo, produjo racimos de uvas maduras.

and on the vine were three branches. As soon as it budded, it blossomed, and its clusters ripened into grapes.
11 Yo tenía la copa del faraón en mi mano, entonces tomé un racimo de uvas y exprimí el jugo en la copa. Después puse la copa en la mano del faraón.

Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes, squeezed them into Pharaoh’s cup and put the cup in his hand.”
12 —El sueño significa lo siguiente —dijo José—: las tres ramas representan tres días;

“This is what it means,” Joseph said to him. “The three branches are three days.
13 dentro de tres días, el faraón te levantará y te pondrá nuevamente en tu puesto como jefe de sus coperos.

Within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your position, and you will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand, just as you used to do when you were his cupbearer.
14 Te pido que te acuerdes de mí y me hagas un favor cuando las cosas te vayan bien. Háblale de mí al faraón, para que me saque de este lugar.

But when all goes well with you, remember me and show me kindness; mention me to Pharaoh and get me out of this prison.
15 Pues me trajeron secuestrado desde mi tierra, la tierra de los hebreos, y ahora estoy aquí en la cárcel, aunque no hice nada para merecerlo.

I was forcibly carried off from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing to deserve being put in a dungeon.”
16 Cuando el jefe de los panaderos vio que José había dado una interpretación tan positiva del primer sueño, le dijo a José:<br />—Yo también tuve un sueño. En mi sueño, había tres canastas de pasteles blancos sobre mi cabeza.

When the chief baker saw that Joseph had given a favorable interpretation, he said to Joseph, “I too had a dream: On my head were three baskets of bread.
17 En la canasta de arriba había todo tipo de pasteles para el faraón, pero llegaron las aves y se los comieron de la canasta que estaba sobre mi cabeza.

In the top basket were all kinds of baked goods for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating them out of the basket on my head.”
18 —El sueño significa lo siguiente —le dijo José—: las tres canastas también representan tres días.

“This is what it means,” Joseph said. “The three baskets are three days.
19 En tres días, el faraón te levantará y atravesará tu cuerpo con un poste; luego las aves llegarán y picotearán tu carne.

Within three days Pharaoh will lift off your head and impale your body on a pole. And the birds will eat away your flesh.”
20 Tres días después era el cumpleaños del faraón, quien preparó un banquete para todos sus funcionarios y su personal. Así que llamó<br /> al jefe de sus coperos y al jefe de sus panaderos para que se unieran a los demás funcionarios.

Now the third day was Pharaoh’s birthday, and he gave a feast for all his officials. He lifted up the heads of the chief cupbearer and the chief baker in the presence of his officials:
21 Entonces restituyó al jefe de los coperos a su cargo anterior, para que volviera a entregar al faraón su copa.

He restored the chief cupbearer to his position, so that he once again put the cup into Pharaoh’s hand—
22 Pero el faraón atravesó al jefe de los panaderos con un poste, tal como José había predicho cuando le interpretó el sueño.

but he impaled the chief baker, just as Joseph had said to them in his interpretation.

The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him.
