Genesis 41:19-39

RSVA 19 and seven other cows came up after them, poor and very gaunt and thin, such as I had never seen in all the land of Egypt. NIV 19 After them, seven other cows came up—scrawny and very ugly and lean. I had never seen such ugly cows in all the land of Egypt. RSVA 20 And the thin and gaunt cows ate up the first seven fat cows, NIV 20 The lean, ugly cows ate up the seven fat cows that came up first. RSVA 21 but when they had eaten them no one would have known that they had eaten them, for they were still as gaunt as at the beginning. Then I awoke. NIV 21 But even after they ate them, no one could tell that they had done so; they looked just as ugly as before. Then I woke up. RSVA 22 I also saw in my dream seven ears growing on one stalk, full and good; NIV 22 “In my dream I saw seven heads of grain, full and good, growing on a single stalk. RSVA 23 and seven ears, withered, thin, and blighted by the east wind, sprouted after them, NIV 23 After them, seven other heads sprouted—withered and thin and scorched by the east wind. RSVA 24 and the thin ears swallowed up the seven good ears. And I told it to the magicians, but there was no one who could explain it to me." NIV 24 The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven good heads. I told this to the magicians, but none of them could explain it to me.” RSVA 25 Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, "The dream of Pharaoh is one; God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do. NIV 25 Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, “The dreams of Pharaoh are one and the same. God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do. RSVA 26 The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good ears are seven years; the dream is one. NIV 26 The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good heads of grain are seven years; it is one and the same dream. RSVA 27 The seven lean and gaunt cows that came up after them are seven years, and the seven empty ears blighted by the east wind are also seven years of famine. NIV 27 The seven lean, ugly cows that came up afterward are seven years, and so are the seven worthless heads of grain scorched by the east wind: They are seven years of famine. RSVA 28 It is as I told Pharaoh, God has shown to Pharaoh what he is about to do. NIV 28 “It is just as I said to Pharaoh: God has shown Pharaoh what he is about to do. RSVA 29 There will come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt, NIV 29 Seven years of great abundance are coming throughout the land of Egypt, RSVA 30 but after them there will arise seven years of famine, and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt; the famine will consume the land, NIV 30 but seven years of famine will follow them. Then all the abundance in Egypt will be forgotten, and the famine will ravage the land. RSVA 31 and the plenty will be unknown in the land by reason of that famine which will follow, for it will be very grievous. NIV 31 The abundance in the land will not be remembered, because the famine that follows it will be so severe. RSVA 32 And the doubling of Pharaoh's dream means that the thing is fixed by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass. NIV 32 The reason the dream was given to Pharaoh in two forms is that the matter has been firmly decided by God, and God will do it soon. RSVA 33 Now therefore let Pharaoh select a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt. NIV 33 “And now let Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man and put him in charge of the land of Egypt. RSVA 34 Let Pharaoh proceed to appoint overseers over the land, and take the fifth part of the produce of the land of Egypt during the seven plenteous years. NIV 34 Let Pharaoh appoint commissioners over the land to take a fifth of the harvest of Egypt during the seven years of abundance. RSVA 35 And let them gather all the food of these good years that are coming, and lay up grain under the authority of Pharaoh for food in the cities, and let them keep it. NIV 35 They should collect all the food of these good years that are coming and store up the grain under the authority of Pharaoh, to be kept in the cities for food. RSVA 36 That food shall be a reserve for the land against the seven years of famine which are to befall the land of Egypt, so that the land may not perish through the famine." NIV 36 This food should be held in reserve for the country, to be used during the seven years of famine that will come upon Egypt, so that the country may not be ruined by the famine.” RSVA 37 This proposal seemed good to Pharaoh and to all his servants. NIV 37 The plan seemed good to Pharaoh and to all his officials. RSVA 38 And Pharaoh said to his servants, "Can we find such a man as this, in whom is the Spirit of God?" NIV 38 So Pharaoh asked them, “Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God ?” RSVA 39 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Since God has shown you all this, there is none so discreet and wise as you are; NIV 39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you.
