1 Cristo es nuestro Sumo Sacerdote<br />El punto principal es el siguiente: tenemos un sumo sacerdote quien se sentó en el lugar de honor, a la derecha del trono del Dios majestuoso en el cielo.

Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,

and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by a mere human being.
3 Ya que es deber de todo sumo sacerdote presentar ofrendas y sacrificios, nuestro Sumo Sacerdote también tiene que presentar una ofrenda.

Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, and so it was necessary for this one also to have something to offer.
4 Si estuviera aquí en la tierra, ni siquiera sería sacerdote, porque ya hay sacerdotes que presentan las ofrendas que exige la ley.

If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already priests who offer the gifts prescribed by the law.
5 Ellos sirven dentro de un sistema de adoración que es solo una copia, una sombra del verdadero, que está en el cielo. Pues cuando Moisés estaba por construir el tabernáculo, Dios le advirtió lo siguiente: «Asegúrate de hacer todo según el modelo que te mostré aquí en la montaña»<br />.

They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.”
6 Pero ahora a Jesús, nuestro Sumo Sacerdote, se le ha dado un ministerio que es muy superior al sacerdocio antiguo porque él es mediador a nuestro favor de un mejor pacto con Dios basado en promesas mejores.

But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.
7 Si el primer pacto no hubiera tenido defectos, no habría sido necesario reemplazarlo con un segundo pacto.

For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.
8 Pero cuando Dios encontró defectos en el pueblo, dijo:<br />«Llegará el día, dice el Señor<br />,<br />en que haré un nuevo pacto<br />con el pueblo de Israel y de Judá.

But God found fault with the people and said : “The days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah.
9 Este pacto no será como el que<br />hice con sus antepasados<br />cuando los tomé de la mano<br />y los saqué de la tierra de Egipto.<br />Ellos no permanecieron fieles a mi pacto,<br />por eso les di la espalda, dice el Señor<br />.

It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they did not remain faithful to my covenant, and I turned away from them, declares the Lord.
10 Pero este es el nuevo pacto que haré<br />con el pueblo de Israel en ese día<br /> —dice el Señor<br />—:<br />Pondré mis leyes en su mente<br />y las escribiré en su corazón.<br />Yo seré su Dios,<br />y ellos serán mi pueblo.

This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
11 Y no habrá necesidad de enseñar a sus vecinos<br />ni habrá necesidad de enseñar a sus parientes,<br />diciendo: “Deberías conocer al Señor<br />”.<br />Pues todos ya me conocerán,<br />desde el más pequeño hasta el más grande.

No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.
12 Y perdonaré sus maldades<br />y nunca más me acordaré de sus pecados»<br />.

For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
13 Cuando Dios habla de un «nuevo» pacto, quiere decir que ha hecho obsoleto al primero, el cual ha caducado y pronto desaparecerá.

By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.
