For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets-- NIV 32 And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets, RSV 33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, received promises, stopped the mouths of lions, NIV 33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, RSV 34 quenched raging fire, escaped the edge of the sword, won strength out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated— RSV 38 of whom the world was not worthy--wandering over deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. NIV 38 the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground. RSV 39 And all these, though well attested by their faith, did not receive what was promised, NIV 39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, RSV 40 since God had foreseen something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect. NIV 40 since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.
